Correction of a left congenital diaphragmatic hernia in a human fetus with a large volume of liver in the chest requires reduction of liver and viscera into the abdomen. This can kink the ductus venosus and cause the death of the fetus. Therefore, we have repaired surgically created diaphragmatic hernias in fetal lambs by leaving viscera in the chest wrapped in a silastic chimney. This study reports a real-time PCR assay for the detection of Brucella spp. associated with the FTA® Elute method in lesions observed during sanitary inspections in beef slaughter. Of the total 276 samples, 78 (28.3%) tested positive and 198 (71.7%) negative for Brucella spp. The real-time PCR technique associated with the FTA® Elute method proved to be an important tool for the diagnosis, judgment about and disposal of carcasses and viscera of slaughtered animals.

The present study isolated a sulfated polysaccharide (SCVP-2) from the viscera of Apostichopus japonicas, which had a molecular weight of 209.1 kDa.
