The absorbed radiation dose to human organs has been estimated, following intravenous administration of (67)Ga-labelled adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) using distribution data from injected normal rats. Four rats were sacrificed at exact time intervals and the percentage of injected dose per gram of each organ was measured by direct counting from rat data. Following a radiological or nuclear (RN) event, rapid measurement of131I in members of the public is of utmost importance, and much equipment is needed for a high throughput. The toxicological mechanism of low sperm motility induced by iron ion radiation (IIR) was investigated in mice. Reproductive organ indices were measured following whole-body irradiation with a 2Gy iron ion beam. Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis, immunoblotting and immunofluorescence were used to analyze protein expression, and real-time polymerase chain reaction was performed to confirm altered gene expression. Reproductive organ indices and sperm motility were lowest 2 weeks after IIR. Sperm function changes via testis and cauda epididymis function were also determined at this time point.

Results of the analysis of changes in peripheral blood lymphocytes size under chronic exposure to external gamma radiation and pesticide chlorophos++ in combination and separately are presented. It has been found out that under exposure of animals to radiation or the pesticide it is small and big lymphocytes respectively which most significantly suffer quantitatively. Under the joint radiation ++-chemical exposure of the organism the number of both types of cells is reduced simultaneously.

The study analysed the relationship between high counts of common naevi and numbers of atypical naevi (AN) in sites differing in exposure to the sun. A series of 90 subjects with 100 or more common naevi (cases) and 92 controls was investigated by means of a case-control study. Silicon PIN diodes were tested as direct detection elements for in vivo counting. An 11-yr-old patient was scanned 96 hr after the administration of gallium-67 (67Ga). The scan emulated the biodistribution of a typical bone-seeking radipharmaceutical-rather than that of 67Ga. None of the factors previously identified with alteration of the biodistribution of 67Ga were found. However, the patient had been injected with gadopentetate in conjunction with magnetic resonance imaging 4 hr before receiving the 67Ga. Gadolinium appears to cause a strong carrier-like effect in 67Ga scans.
