Lactating dairy cows in four lots were observed for sexual behavior for 6 mo. One freemartin heifer in each lot was implanted with testosterone propionate and estradiol benzoate to aid in detection of estrus. Using a previously described luminol-dependent photometric chemiluminescence (CL) assay we have investigated the relative significance of the free radicals in the CL phenomenon associated with the respiratory burst of granulocytes and monocytes.
