BACKGROUND: Death literacy - the knowledge, skills, and capacity to navigate end-of-life care, advance care planning, dying, and death care - is shaped by cultural, religious, and linguistic factors. The Death Literacy Index (DLI) captures practical, experiential, factual, and community domains. Currently, there is limited evidence about death literacy levels among culturally and linguistically diverse communities in multicultural settings, and little is known about how translated versions of the DLI perform psychometrically in these groups or how culturally tailored, community-delivered inter

Children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who use augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) often face barriers to full academic participation due to the difficulties of navigating traditional AAC displays. Advances in artificial intelligence may enable context-aware AAC tools that generate response options based on linguistic input from communication partners, enabling faster and more effective communication and potentially increasing academic participation. This study compared the effects of a context-aware AAC prototype to traditional AAC in supporting academic

Our community suffers from a common problem - a disconnected, complex network of healthcare and human service providers that hinders the community they intend to serve. In response to the need for integration and coordination across sectors and informed by organizational and cultural communication theory, a group of not-for-profit organizations formed a coalition to innovate and coordinate services within Augusta, Georgia. This paper describes how the community-led HUB Augusta Collaborative creates consistent and coordinated health communication to promote health within the community we serve.

BACKGROUND: Team Orange is a Japanese national dementia initiative, established under the government's National Framework for Promotion of Dementia Policies. It connects people living with dementia (PLWD) and their families with trained community volunteers ("Orange Supporters") who provide practical daily assistance and foster local support networks. By 2023, the initiative had expanded to nearly 1,900 teams and 33,000 supporters nationwide. Despite this growth, the perceived benefits of these roles among Orange Supporters remain largely unexplored. This study examined the benefits of Team Or

Although community engagement in health service decision making is a cornerstone of effective planning that meets local population needs, there is limited information on how these practices are being undertaken and their level of efficacy from the perspective of community members. This pan-provincial survey research in British Columbia (BC) considered whether or not there is a gap between rural community voices and their inclusion in health planning through an online survey of rural community residents (N = 707). Responses were analyzed based on an amended IAP2 Spectrum framework and revealed

Public health agencies routinely conduct community health assessments, yet many jurisdictions continue to face challenges translating population health data into coordinated action that addresses structural determinants of health, health equity, and public health infrastructure needs. These challenges became increasingly visible during the COVID-19 pandemic and highlight the need for community-centered approaches that align public health, healthcare systems, and community partnerships across sectors. This Policy and Practice Review presents a community-centered framework for translating local

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Higher education requires students to communicate in complex academic and social contexts, including oral presentations, group work, help-seeking, assessment, and peer interaction. For students with developmental communication disorders, and communication-related developmental profiles, these demands may create hidden participation vulnerabilities that affect mental health, academic engagement, and belonging. This scoping review mapped empirical evidence among tertiary students, focusing on mental health, academic participation, social belonging, institutional support, a

Despite the increasing adoption of a syndemic approach in HIV research, few health communication campaigns have used a syndemic approach in messaging to improve health outcomes for persons living with HIV (PWH). This paper introduces a framework for practitioners and researchers developing health communication messages in support of a syndemic approach to HIV care for PWH in the United States. Grounded in insights from a review of counseling and psychosocial interventions that demonstrated significant positive effects on HIV clinical outcomes, the C4H Framework emphasizes four components: comp

Diet is a critical determinant of health, yet nutrition education remains underemphasized in medical school curricula, leaving physicians inadequately prepared to discuss nutrition with patients. Culinary Medicine (CM), a growing field blending nutritional science with practical culinary skills, offers a promising model for enhancing medical trainee competence in dietary counseling. However, many CM programs focus primarily on nutrition and culinary training, often underutilizing the educational potential of community engagement. This article advocates for the integration of community-engaged

Quick-build projects aim to improve the safety and accessibility of streets, parks, and other public spaces using temporary, lower-cost materials. Community engagement (CE) is critical to ensuring quick-builds address community needs and fit community context. Between 2019-2021, 13 quick-build projects were implemented in Hawai'i communities to support walking, rolling, bicycling, skateboarding, and park activation. The quick-build changes included creating curb extensions painted with street artwork and adding park features. This process evaluation study sought to understand how multisector p

BACKGROUND: CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder (CDD) is a rare neurodevelopmental disorder characterised by early onset seizures combined with complex healthcare needs and developmental impairment that influence functional domains including communication. Communication is a high priority domain for families but currently used measures demonstrate floor effects. Emerging disease-modifying trials necessitate the precise and granular measurement of communication to determine drug efficacy. This study evaluated a new measure of communication for CDD called the Communication Inventory Disability – Observer

This exploratory interpretative qualitative study aimed to investigate environmental factors influencing "in the moment" decisions about use of graphic symbols or spelling in face-to-face communicative interactions, by adolescents who use communication aids and are learning how to spell. The participants were six adolescents (who used speech generating devices) and their mothers. Data collection consisted of seven to eight communicative interactions between adolescents and their mothers and follow up interviews with the participants. Each dyad took part in three Zoom sessions. Researchers iden

In 2020, the Houston Health Department (HHD) in Texas launched a citywide wastewater surveillance program, including a pilot program that monitored manholes at schools in Houston's largest school district (prekindergarten-12th grade). By 2022, the pilot program monitored wastewater for SARS-CoV-2, influenza A and B, and respiratory syncytial virus. To ensure effective communication of wastewater surveillance results to school communities, HHD designed and implemented a text- and email-based alert system using existing City of Houston resources. This alert program informs recipients about the p
