Eight-hundred-and-ninety-six cattle belonging to herds officially designated Brucella-free, and 190 cattle belonging to infected herds were tested with the skin delayed-type hypersensitivity (SDTH) test, using brucellin (273) prepared from a mucoid strain of Brucella abortus. An increase in skinfold thickness > or = 2 mm was considered a positive SDTH test. The serum agglutination test, complement fixation test and bacteriological examination were used to confirm SDTH test results. Twenty-three patients with spontaneous rupture of a pulmonary cavity with a pyopneumothorax resulting from coccidioidomycosis are presented. Clinical and laboratory findings, medical and surgical treatment, and complications are detailed. Skin tests are not helpful in making a diagnosis. An epidemic of yellow fever occurred in the eastern part of Nigeria during the second half of 1986. Oju, in Benue State, was the most heavily affected region, but yellow fever also occurred in surrounding areas, particularly Ogoja, in Cross River State. Between January 1986 and December 1990 the prevalence of F. hepatica infection was studied in 5861 rural inhabitants of the provinces of Curico, Talca and Linares, VII Region, an hyperendemic zone of animal fascioliasis. An Enzyme linked-immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was recently established for the detection of sandfly Naples and Sicilian viruses (SFN and SFS) from laboratory infected as well as wild caught sandflies in Egypt. An outbreak of histoplasmosis occurred at a county courthouse in Arkansas in July, 1975. Fifty cases were identified by symptoms and positive complement fixation (CF) tests and 18 others by the clinical findings alone. Only three positive CF tests (greater than or equal to 1:8) were found in a control group of 55 unexposed persons of the same age. The attack rate for 84 courthouse employees was 52%.
