The present study reports a rare case of primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) of the prostate. A 23-year-old male presented to Oita Medical Center (Oita, Japan) with the complaint of dysuria and anal pain. A large mass in the prostate and a number of swollen lymph nodes in the pelvic region were identified by a computed tomography scan and magnetic resonance imaging. We isolated a novel human ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter cDNA, determined its nucleotide sequence, and designated it human ABC7 (hABC7). The nucleotide sequence was highly homologous to the ATM1 gene in yeast, which encodes an ABC transporter (yAtm1p) located in the mitochondrial inner membrane. Solid phase cytometry would be an asset for many histological and cytological studies. Current microscope-based cytometers and image analysis systems are too slow to analyze specimens several millimeters wide. We have recently shown that a rapid wide area laser scanning device that operates on solid supports has a linear response. We assess it here for solid phase cytometry. Each cell detected by the cytometer can be automatically positioned for visual observation in the field of an epifluorescence microscope (conventional or confocal) in which the stage is driven by the instrument's computer.

cDNA clones complementary to mRNA of cells from patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) were used to examine quantitative changes in the mRNA levels of specific genes in human leukemia leukocytes.
