In this report, we describe the multicomponent coupling reaction between arynes, (pseudo)halides, and an electrophilic chalcogen species. Addition of a copper salt enabled smooth conversion by suppressing side reactions. A variety of different aryne precursors as well as seleno- and thiosulfonates were employed, yielding a broad spectrum of ortho-(pseudo)halogenated chalcogenides. This motif was subjected to different cross-coupling approaches, demonstrating the applicability of these compounds as building blocks for more complex structures.

Triazole antifungal drugs may rarely cause serious allergic reactions including angioedema. No standardized tests are available to predict cross-reactivity within the azole class and little guiding information exists on whether to change therapy within the class or to another class after a serious allergic reaction. Herein we report the first successful use, to our knowledge, of graded isavuconazole introduction for treatment of aspergillosis in a liver transplant recipient with severe voriconazole allergy.

The ColorPAC Giardia/Cryptosporidium (Becton Dickinson) is a solid-phase qualitative immunochromatographic assay that detects and distinguishes between Giardia lamblia and Cryptosporidium parvum in human stool. Agreement between the Alexon-Trend ProSpecT Giardia Rapid EIA and the ColorPAC assay was 166 of 172 (96.5%). Agreement between the Alexon-Trend ProSpecT Cryptosporidium Rapid EIA and the ColorPAC assay was 169 of 171 (98.8%). No cross-reactions were seen with other parasites or human cells.

BACKGROUND: Semipermanent henna tattoos containing para-phenylenediamine (PPD) are a well-known cause of severe contact dermatitis, mainly in children. Another relevant exposure source to PPD are hair dyes, which are increasingly used by children and have also been reported to cause intense facial and scalp dermatitis. Adverse reactions to ingested crustacea are common and may be life-threatening. We studied 14 individuals with histories of such reactions to shrimp by immediate skin tests and RAST with extracts of shrimp, crab, crayfish, and lobster.
