Evaluation of the Patient Acceptability of Automated Communication of Prostate-specific Antigen Results After Local Treatment for Prostate Cancer.

Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) monitoring is the cornerstone of prostate cancer (PC) follow-up after radical prostatectomy (RP) and radiotherapy (RT). St. Antonius Hospital (Nieuwegein/Utrecht, The Netherlands) launched the Automatic PSA Project in 2022 for automated digital communication of PSA results. PSA results are reviewed by a clinical team, and stable results are sent via automated messages; while rising PSA prompts referral to a urologist. Automated digital communication of PSA results reduces clinician and outpatient workloads and costs and patient travel. We evaluated the patient a

Patterns of Digital and In-Person Sexual Behaviors Among Adolescents: Associations with Individual Characteristics, Sexual Well-being, and Respectful Attitudes Toward Partners.

Technology offers new opportunities for adolescents to engage in sexual activity and experimentation. Most research has examined online and offline behaviors in isolation, rather than considering how these experiences co-occur in diverse ways for youth and associate with sexual well-being. This study identified subclasses of adolescents based on their frequency of engagement in consensual online and offline sexual behaviors over the past three months and examined associations with sociodemographic and socioemotional characteristics, as well as positive sexuality outcomes, namely sexual well-be

Non-human papilloma virus associated adenocarcinomas of the cervix uteri. Cytologic features and diagnostic agreement using whole slide digital cytology imaging.

BACKGROUND: Non-Human Papilloma Virus associated adenocarcinomas (NHPVAs) are uncommon tumors of the cervix uteri which often show a deceptive morphology. Therefore, their diagnostic assessment may be challenging. Slide digital cytology imaging may be an useful tool to improve cytological diagnostic accuracy. However, this novel technology has not been applied to NHPVAs associated cytologies yet. METHODS: The study included 31 whole slide digital cytology cases from 10 women with a proven histological diagnosis of NHPVA. As a control group, three further digital slides, from two women with a

Development of a minimally invasive surgical guide template for flapless extraction of deeply impacted premolars: A technical note and case report.

The emergence of digital surgical guide templates in alveolar surgery has rapidly increased in the past decade, coinciding with the advancements in 3D printing technology. In contrast to conventional freehand procedures, the utilization of digital templates serves as a 'bridge' that facilitates the extraction of impacted teeth with expedited and accurate intraoperative localization, resulting in a notable reduction in surgical duration, minimized trauma, and lowered risk. However, there is significant scope for enhancements in surgical techniques and refinement of surgical guide templates. The

Recent advances in non-invasive imaging of systemic sclerosis-related digital ulcers.

Digital ulcers are a major source of pain and disability in patients with systemic sclerosis. Current treatments are not ideal, yet drug development for digital ulcers is hampered by a lack of objective outcome measures to facilitate clinical trials. Advances in non-invasive imaging could provide a way forward. This review article first describes the rationale for non-invasive imaging of digital ulcers in both clinical practice and research. In clinical practice, magnetic resonance imaging allows early diagnosis of underlying osteomyelitis, and smartphone imaging allows early (remote) identifi

Reflection: AI as a catalyst for change in postgraduate medical education.

Artificial intelligence (AI) presents a timely opportunity to modernise postgraduate medical education, which has remained largely unchanged despite rapid technological advancements. AI can streamline administrative tasks, personalise learning and support critical thinking, allowing educators to refocus on mentorship and bedside teaching. However, if used uncritically or introduced too early as a substitute for clinical reasoning, AI may contribute to the risk of 'never-skilling', where students fail to develop the foundational clinical skills and independent judgement needed for safe practice

The FemTech revolution: Unlocking the potential of new technology for optimizing pregnancy outcomes in low- and middle-income countries and remote areas.

Maternal and neonatal mortality and morbidity rates uncover major global health disparities. Despite ongoing efforts, the rates of maternal and neonatal complications remain substantially higher in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) compared to high-income countries (HICs). These high rates are the result of several unmet needs in LMICs, including limited access to quality antenatal care, health worker shortages, unreliable infrastructure, sociocultural barriers, low health literacy, environmental and nutritional challenges, and affordability. In addition, while the greatest burden of th

Redefining and solving the digital divide and exclusion to improve healthcare: going beyond access to include availability, adequacy, acceptability, and affordability.

The digital divide in the United States extends beyond the traditional definition of access, which focuses solely on physical infrastructure like broadband networks and connectivity points. This narrow framing has resulted in policies that fail to address the full spectrum of barriers to digital inclusion. To bridge this gap, we propose the Rhizomatic Digital Ecosystem Framework, which emphasizes five interdependent components: access, availability, adequacy, acceptability and affordability. Access highlights the need for physical infrastructure, with programs like the Broadband Equity, Access
