In a review of non-viral bullous skin diseases of domestic animals and a 4-year study of cases presented to the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine, we found 15 diseases: pemphigus vulgaris, pemphigus vegetans, pemphigus foliaceus, pemphigus erythematosus, bullous pemphigoid, systemic lupus erythematosus, dermatitis herpetiformis, toxic epidermal necrolysis, drug eruption, epidermolysis bullosa, epidermolysis bullosa simplex, familial acantholysis, bovine congenital porphyria, impetigo and subcorneal pustular dermatosis. The 15 diseases were placed in five categories: autoimmune, imm

Fluoroacetamide (1081 or F.A.A) is used in Israel for field rodent control. Experiments on direct and secondary, short and long term poisoning caused by 1081 were carried out. Mongoose (Herpestes ichneumon), hyena (Hyaena hyaena), cats and dogs were susceptible. Barn owls (Tyto alba), buzzards (Buteo buteo) and black kites (Milvus m. migrans) were markedly resistant. Barn owls tolerated total direct poisoning ranging from 6.8 to 10.9, and a final dose ranging from 0.8 to 2.0 mg/kg. In secondary poisoning, total doses ranging from 1.7 to 7.1, and final doses ranging from 0.2 to 1.3 mg/kg were t

The topographical anatomy of the carotid body region was investigated on both sides in 30 adult domestic fowls (Gallus gallus domesticus). On each side of the body the two parathyroid glands always adhered to each other, the caudal gland being the smaller. The right cranial parathyroid usually touched the thyroid gland, but on the left side the two glands were nearly always separate. The ultimobranchial gland was usually attached to the parathyroid glands on the left side, but was always well separated on the right side. The carotid body, the identity of which was checked by light and electron

In the neurocranium of the domestic fowl the centres of ossification present at hatching and appearing susbequently have been investigated and illustrated. The controversy over centres around the orbit is reviewed and it is concluded that paired laterally placed pleurosphenoids are present by the time of hatching, while paired orbitosphenoids situated near the midline and dorsal to the optic foramen do not appear until between 70 and 91 days after hatching. No additional "presphenoid" centres were detected. The neurocranial articulations were studied: 27, many of them paired, were identified.

The normal anatomy of the three cochlear nuclei in the hen, the nucleus laminaris, the nucleus angularis and the nucleus magnocellularis is described. Following lesions of the cochlear nerve, all three nuclei are shown to receive primary cochlear fibers (silver impregnation methods). The part of nucleus laminaris which consists of a ventral convex sheet of cells is shown to receive cochlear nerve fibers from both ears, the nerve fibers from the ipsilateral ear terminating dorsal to the cell sheet while contralateral nerve fibers terminate ventral to the nerve cells. The cochlear ganglion cells
