Trauma is the major reason for globe loss in adults; however, there are less data regarding the causes for globe loss in children. With respect to the effect of surgical treatment upon the eye and the subsequent tumor behavior, 107 cases of ciliary body melanoma treated by iridocyclectomy were studied. PURPOSE: Ciliary body mesectodermal leiomyoma is a rare, benign smooth muscle tumor that typically presents in women in the second to fourth decade of life. The diagnosis is typically based on clinical color, funduscopic appearance, transillumination properties, and B-scan ultrasonography.

A 62-year-old man with a large ciliochoroidal melanoma developed early-onset scleral necrosis with tumor extrusion within 1 month of epibulbar iodine I 125 plaque radiotherapy. The eye was enucleated. Pathologic study revealed nonmicrobial scleral necrosis with extrusion of histologically intact and necrotic uveal melanoma cells. The patient has been followed up for 15 months without clinical recurrence. We discuss possible mechanisms to explain the early development of scleral necrosis after plaque therapy in this patient.

Retinal dysplasia is a rare non-neoplastic congenital disorder characterized by aberrant differentiation of the retina with formation of abnormal tubular and rosette-like structure. Clinically, the lesion presents with leukocoria and mimics a retinoblastoma. One such case is described that occurred unilaterally in a 9-month-old boy.

DESIGN: A retrospective morphologic study of eight affected eyes from eight cats, from 1992 to 2006 extracted from a pathology collection, which includes 4000 feline submissions and 1100 cases of feline glaucoma.
