Application of peracetic acid (PAA) in Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) has seen an increase in the last few years. In this study, PAA/UVC-LED/transition metal was used to degrade acetaminophen (ACT) in an aqueous solution. Amongst tested transition metals (Fe, Cu, Co, Mn, Ag), Fe(II) demonstrated the highest efficiency. The effect of pH, PAA dosage, initial concentration of ACT and Fe(II) concentration was investigated on ACT removal. A sensitive method is described for detection of the apoE 4 gene detection which is important for early diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. It is based on signal amplification by using ferrocene (Fc) capped gold nanoparticles modified with streptavidin. The immobilized oligonucleotide probe captures complementary apoE 4 gene. This is followed by the specific recognition of the GCGC sequences which are hydrolyzed by the restriction enzyme HhaI. Dissimilatory metal reducing bacteria (DMRB) widely exist in the subsurface environment and are involved in various contaminant degradation and element geochemical cycling processes. Recent studies suggest that DMRB can biosynthesize metal nanoparticles during metal reduction, but it is unclear yet how such biogenic nanomaterials would affect their decontamination behaviors. In this study, we found that the dechlorination rates of carbon tetrachloride (CT) by Shewanella putrefaciens CN32 was significantly increased by 8 times with the formation of biogenic ferrous sulfide (FeS) nanoparticles.

Discharge of Cr(VI)-containing industrial effluents leads to the pollution of surface waters and ground waters. In this study, Cr(VI) was first reduced by Na2SO3 or FeSO4 and then biochar generated from peanut straw at 500 °C was used to remove the Cr(III). Our purpose was to compare the absorption of iron bisglycinate and ferrous calcium citrate in volunteers using an oral iron tolerance test. Twenty volunteers, 10 healthy controls and 10 with stable Crohn's disease, agreed to participate in the study. All were given 50 mg of elemental iron as iron bisglycinate or ferrous calcium citrate. A new procedure for electroplating wastewater treatment using waste by-product (ferrous-sulfate) and waste (wood fly ash) is presented. Ferrous-sulfate was employed for Cr(VI) reduction whereas neutralization and heavy metal removal from electroplating wastewaters was performed using wood fly ash. Heavy metal removal efficiency varied from 97.5% for Cu to 99.973% for Zn. Satisfying results can be achieved already at the pH 8. Evaluation of the 50% inhibitory concentration (IC50) of acetylsalicylic acid, ferrous sulfate, amitriptyline, methanol, isopropanol and ethylene glycol was done on human cancer cells cultured in in vitro conditions. The effect of desferrioxamine on the reduction of tissue iron and the corresponding level of tissue ascorbic acid have been investigated in female guinea pigs on Vitamin C deficient diet. Plasma and liver AA concentrations were measured after stopping treatment (day 0) and on the following 24 days.
