RATIONALE: To report the distant migration of a subdermal contraceptive implant and to suggest that C arm-guided technique is one of the feasible options for removal of the device migrated to the axilla.
PATIENT CONCERNS: A 41-year-old multipara with tingling sensation in the left axilla was referred for removal of an Implanon NXT which could not be palpated by physical examination or detected by ultrasound scanning. Finally, the device was detected by computed tomography and found migrating to the left axilla.
DIAGNOSIS: Migration of Implanon NXT to the left axilla abutting the brachial ple

Foreign body ingestion can be caused by many factors, including hallucination in patients with mental retardation. Most ingested foreign bodies are naturally discharged, though surgical intervention is necessary in some cases. Endoscopic intervention often leads to successful outcome, though open surgery may be required in certain instances. A 29-year-old mentally retarded woman presented to emergency services with a 2-day history of right lumbar pain that increased with movement. Physical examination revealed no specific sign beyond palpable tenderness in the right lumbar region. Radiological

BACKGROUND: Pectus excavatum results from dorsal deviation of the sternum causing narrowing of the anterior-posterior diameter of the chest. It can result in significant cosmetic deformities and cardiopulmonary compromise if severe. The Nuss procedure is a minimally invasive technique that involves placing a thin horizontally oriented metal bar below the dorsal sternal apex for correction of the pectus deformity.
OBJECTIVE: To identify the frequency and types of Nuss bar migrations, to present a new categorization of bar migrations, and to present examples of true migrations and pseudomigrati

Bullet embolism is rare complication of penetrating gunshot trauma. We are presenting a case of a single gunshot with entrance wound located on external side of a left thigh. The upward directed trajectory extends to the left lateral side of the neck, but the bullet has been recovered from right external iliac vein. The bullet migration was explained due to one rare variation of the mouth of vena cava superior and inferior.

BACKGROUND: Nutcracker syndrome is an entity resulting from left renal vein compression by the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery, which leads to symptoms of hematuria or left flank pain. The alternative option of endovascular or extravascular stenting is very appealing because of the minimal invasive procedures. Stents in the renal vein can cause fibromuscular hyperplasia, proximal migration or embolization.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 30-year-old female was diagnosed with nutcracker syndrome for severe left flank pain. After failed conservative approach, she underwent endovascular stenting a

This report describes a solution for a restenosis and for the fracture of a stent in the vertebral artery in a patient suffering from vertebrobasilar symptoms. Angiography demonstrates restenosis of a vertebral stent as well as its fracture and migration into the subclavian artery. This complication was managed percutaneously by passing a guide wire through the fractured stent. Pre-dilatation and kissing balloon techniques were applied in both the vertebral and subclavian arteries to modify the stent's dimensions and shape it into the form of a "ring." Postprocedural angiography demonstrated a

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to determine the cost-effectiveness of serial stenting vs ureteroscopy for treatment of urolithiasis during pregnancy as a function of gestational age (GA) at diagnosis.
STUDY DESIGN: We built decision analytic models for a hypothetical cohort of pregnant women who had received a diagnosis of symptomatic ureteral calculi and compared serial stenting to ureteroscopy. We assumed ureteral stent replacement every 4 weeks during pregnancy, intravenous sedation for stent placement, and spinal anesthetic for ureteroscopy. Outcomes were derived from the litera

Threaded pins and wires are commonly used in orthopedic practice and their migration intra- or post-operatively may be responsible for potentially serious complications. Vascular and visceral injury from intra-pelvic pin or guide-wire migration during or following hip surgery has been reported frequently in the literature and may result in progression through soft tissues with subsequent perforation of organs and vessels. In this report, we describe an autopsy case involving a 40-year old man suffering from chronic low back pain due to sacroiliac joint disruption. The patient underwent minimal

INTRODUCTION: Transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion is a popular procedure used to achieve spondylodesis in patients with degenerative lumbar spinal diseases. We present a rare case of a patient with a set screw fracture with cage dislocation after an open transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion procedure. To the best of our knowledge, this case is the first of its kind to be reported.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 44-year-old Caucasian woman attended a follow-up appointment at our hospital 3 months after treatment for second-degree lumbar spondylolisthesis (L4/L5) and osteochondrosis (L5/S1) with tra

A 23 year old woman presented with sudden onset retrosternal chest pain following an attempt to move a heavy object from her vehicle. Multiple fractured struts of an inferior vena cava filter were identified in the distal right and left pulmonary artery branches, and in the free wall of the right ventricle. A small pericardial effusion was noted. Because of the depth of penetration into the right ventricle, it was perceived not to be amenable to endovascular retrieval. Over several days of observation, she continued to have progressive retrosternal and left shoulder pain. She underwent explora

Single-incision slings are the newest midurethral slings developed for the surgical treatment of stress urinary incontinence. We report the case of a patient who underwent single-incision sling placement who presented with recurrent stress incontinence 3 years after the procedure. She was found to have a 1.7-cm bladder stone that formed around the single-incision sling polypropylene barb.

We describe a very rare complication of migration of Artificial Urinary Sphincter pump device, following an elective implantation in a male patient with significant stress incontinence secondary to cauda equina syndrome. Looking through existing literature there has not been a similar complication reported. Usual complications reported include erosion, infection and mechanical failure.

Feeding jejunal tubes provide an excellent method for enteral nutritional support in cases where the oral route is impossible or insufficient for use. However, several complications may result from the placement of the tube. Detachment of the tube and migration through the intestine is a very rare complication. We report herein a 65-year-old male patient in whom a jejunal feeding tube (28-F Pezzer catheter) was placed two months before due to unresectable gastric cancer. He presented with disappearance of the tube and abdominal pain. Radiological investigations showed the tube localized in the

Dental implants placed in the maxilla risk failure because of the low density of the maxillary bone and the shortness of the maxillary ridge. Moreover, inadequate implant preparation, drilling or installation can easily lead to complications related to the maxillary sinuses. Displacement of dental implants into the maxillary sinus can cause serious complications, but there are few reports of such cases. The aim of this paper is to present three cases of a migrated dental implants into the maxillary sinus: in the first two cases the dental implant was found close to the medial wall of the maxil

A patient with a giant partially thrombosed basilar apex aneurysm was treated with balloon-assisted coil embolization. At the conclusion of the embolization, an Enterprise stent was placed from the upper basilar artery to the left P1 segment. Follow-up angiography 4 months later showed that the distal stent had pulled out of the posterior cerebral artery and was in the coil mass within the aneurysm. Angiography clearly showed that the stent had migrated down the basilar artery and that the artery was now kinked proximal to the stent. Nonetheless, the left posterior cerebral artery and the basi

PURPOSE: To report a case of nonresolution of acute hydrops despite treatment with intracameral perfluoropropane (C3F8) gas because of fish egging of the gas bubble.
METHODS: An acute hydrops in a 25-year-old female patient with keratoconus was treated with intracameral injection of 0.15 mL of isoexpansile C3F8 (14%).
RESULTS: Slit-lamp examination showed multiple small bubbles trapped inside the intrastromal cleft and persistence of corneal edema.
CONCLUSION: Intraoperative fish egging of the C3F8 gas bubble can lead to intrastromal migration of the gas, which may prevent the closure of th
