BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) and hand eczema (HE) are common chronic and relapsing inflammatory skin conditions that often co-occur.
OBJECTIVES: While several studies have addressed their relationship, the exact association estimate is unknown.
METHODS: We systematically reviewed published literature on the association between AD and HE in PubMed, Embase and Web of Science using the following search terms: (atopic dermatitis OR atopic eczema) AND (hand dermatitis OR hand eczema). Meta-analyses were then performed to examine the association between AD and the point, 1-year and lifetime

Hand eczema is a chronic disease (1), commonly considered the expression of a contact allergic or irritative dermatitis. However, when the prick/patch tests and laboratory investigations are negative, important diagnostic challenges may arise. Peripheral nerve fibers are in fact capable of releasing neuromediators. Thus, an alteration of the central and/or peripheral nervous system can cause the exacerbation as well as the onset of a cutaneous disease (2). From September 1, 2013 to August 31, 2015, we observed 5 female patients between 20 and 40 years old, with particular hand dermatitis lesio

We describe a case of primary cutaneous mucormycosis in a 44-year-old man with an 18-month history of infiltrative erythematous plaques and haemorrhagic crusting on the dorsum of his left hand. The isolate was identified as Mucor irregularis (formerly Rhizomucor variabilis) based on the fungus morphology and DNA sequencing results. Improvement was observed after a 6-month treatment course of itraconazole. No recrudescence was seen during a follow-up of 23 months after treatment.

Topical application of antihistamines commonly leads to sensitization for patients, but systemic administration of antihistamines rarely induces allergic hypersensitivity, which is mainly linked to phenothiazine-derived and piperazine-derived compounds. We report a 70-year-old woman whose medical history included lichen planus, and who was referred by the dermatology department of our hospital for suspected allergy to corticosteroids. The reason for referral was that on the fourth day of treatment with prednisone and hydroxyzine, the patient presented a bilateral highly pruritic palmar erythem

Bacillary angiomatosis is a rare opportunistic infection caused by the gram-negative bacteria Bartonella. The infection is strongly related to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, and hence, the diagnosis is usually considered based on the fact that the patient is HIV positive. We report on a case of bacillary angiomatosis presenting as a pyogenic granuloma of the hand in an otherwise apparently healthy man. The report is aimed to increase the awareness of hand surgeons that this serious disease may be the first clinical manifestation of HIV infection. The case also demonstrates that

Since 1968, tap water iontophoresis has been employed as the method of choice for treating palmoplantar hyperhidrosis. Special electrodes also allow treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis. Tap water iontophoresis also can extend symptom -free intervals in dyshidrotic palmar eczema. The mechanism action is most likely a functional disturbance of the secretory mechanism of eccrine acini. During the induction phase, treatments are carried out once daily. Current direction may be switched before each treatment or, even better, kept constant until one side, preferably the dominant hand on the anode, i
