INTRODUCTION: Hypertension has emerged as a significant public health concern, ranking among the leading causes of mortality in low- and middle-income countries. A case of pernicious anemia in a 30 years old men is described. This disease was typical for the hematologic, immunologic and medullary patterns, for his evolution, but the Schilling test, a dual tracer method, did not confirm the diagnosis. The contradictory of this result can be explained wether by the bias of the test itself, or by the intestinal malabsorption due to the vitamin B12 deficiency, or by other factors like bacterial overgrowth state (associated in the pernicious anemia) and a high level of antibodies to intrinsic factor.

A previously healthy 16-year-old adolescent boy presented with pallor, blurry vision, fatigue, and dyspnea on exertion. Physical examination demonstrated hypertension and bilateral optic nerve swelling. Laboratory testing revealed pancytopenia. The aim of the study was to evaluate the outcome of unrelated bone marrow donor (UBMD) searches initiated for 174 children between 1986 and 1997. Seven patients were registered twice so that a total of 181 UBMD searches took place. The use of the anthelmintic levamisole as a cocaine adulterant has been increasing worldwide. Complications caused by this association include systemic vasculitis, agranulocytosis, neutropenia, tissue necrosis, pulmonary hemorrhage, and renal injury. Data about toxicity of levamisole are scarce, therefore the aim of this study was to evaluate the acute and subchronic toxic effects of levamisole in rats. Male Wistar rats received saline or levamisole by intraperitoneal route at the doses of 12, 24 and 36 mg/kg in the acute toxicity test; and at 3, 6 and 12 mg/kg in the subchronic toxicity test.
