MASPIN, a member of serpin superfamily, has multifaceted biological functions and an unique tumour suppressing activity. Experimental evidences showed that MASPIN suppresses tumour growth, angiogenesis, invasion and metastasis. In a series of 50 consecutive cases with oral or oropharyngeal malignancies, aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase (AHH) inducibility and smoking habits were studied. 82% of the patients were smokers. The AHH levels were divided into high, intermediate and low groups and were correlated to a healthy control material also divided into the groups mentioned. Intra-oral haemangiomas can lead to intra-operative bleeding while being excised conventionally with a scalpel. Therefore excision with CO2-Laser using coagulating effects and vaporisation of soft-tissues has been introduced. 52 intra-oral haemangiomas were excised minimal invasively and without relapse. With CO2-Laser no complications were seen postoperatively but the healing period was prolonged.

Among 23 squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) of the oral cavity which were screened for DNA copy number alterations (CNAs) using comparative genomic hybridization, 14 showed a gain of, and 5 of these 14 even an amplification of band 11q13. BACKGROUND: Most prevalence studies on oral leukoplakia (OL) in China have been published in the Chinese language. The present review on the literature in Chinese aimed at making the data available to colleagues who are not familiar with the Chinese language.
METHODS: The overall rate and 95% confidence interval of OL were calculated using Excel 2003.

Deoxyribonucleic acid ploidy was determined in paraffin-embedded tumor tissue from 116 patients with primary oral squamous cell carcinomas (including 5 carcinomas of the lip and 14 of the tongue) by means of flow cytometry.
