Pleuroparenchymal Fibroelastosis in Connective Tissue Disease-Related Interstitial Lung Disease.

Background: Pleuroparenchymal fibroelastosis (PPFE) is a rare fibroelastotic lung disease characterized histologically by dense pleural and … ic validation. Proposed mechanisms include epithelial injury, immune dysregulation, and vascular or lymphatic abnormalities, although causal links remain unproven. Significant gaps persist regarding natural history and therapeutic responsiveness. Conclusions: Earlier identification of PPFE in CTD-ILD is important, as misclassification may delay risk stratification and ma …

Guidelines for tick-borne diseases (excluding Lyme borreliosis): diagnosis and management.

Other tick-borne microorganisms can cause symptoms that differ from those of Lyme borreliosis, often with a more acute course. Fever is the primary clinical warning sign, which may be accompanied by various other symptoms-cutaneous, neuromeningeal, and lymphatic-that help guide diagnosis. A clinical approach makes it relatively straightforward to distinguish Lyme borreliosis from other tick-borne diseases, with the common factor being the tick as the vector. Biological abnormalities (anaemia, thrombocytopenia, cytolysis, etc.) are often present in tick-borne diseases, unlike in Lyme borreliosi

Photobiomodulation under Electroencephalographic Controls of Sleep for Stimulation of Lymphatic Removal of Toxins from Mouse Brain.

The meningeal lymphatic vessels (MLVs) play an important role in the removal of toxins from the brain. The development of innovative technologies for the stimulation of MLV functions is a promising direction in the progress of the treatment of various brain diseases associated with MLV abnormalities, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, brain tumors, traumatic brain injuries, and intracranial hemorrhages. Sleep is a natural state when the brain's drainage processes are most active. Therefore, stimulation of the brain's drainage and MLVs during sleep may have the most pronounced ther

Signet-ring cell carcinoma of the transverse colon in a 10-year-old girl: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) is a rare subtype of colorectal cancer. The incidence of primary colonic SRCC is relatively rare in pediatric patients, with a limited number of reported cases currently available. The prognosis for this specific tumor type is unfavorable, and the preoperative diagnosis presents challenges, potentially leading to misdiagnosis. This case report describes the diagnosis of primary SRCC in the colon of a 10-year-old girl. CASE SUMMARY: The patient was admitted to the hospital due to abdominal pain and vomiting. A computed tomography scan revealed an i

Laparoscopic findings of congenital hepatic fibrosis: A case report and review of the published work.

A 33-year-old man visited a hospital after vomiting blood. Emergent esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed the presence of varices in the lower esophagus. The patient did not have a past history of alcohol consumption and was negative for hepatitis B and C viruses. He was referred to our hospital for closer examination. Portal hypertension was detected by conventional imaging modalities, but signs of liver cirrhosis, thrombosis, stenosis, malformation of the portal vein and bile duct abnormalities were not observed. We performed laparoscopy-guided liver biopsy to examine the cause of portal hyper

Protein-losing enteropathy in a dog with lymphangiectasia, lymphoplasmacytic enteritis and pancreatic exocrine insufficiency.

This is a report of seven-year-old male Akita mixed dog, with protein-losing enteropathy (PLE). He had a history of chronic vomiting and diarrhea with anorexia/hyporexia. Previously he suffered acute abdomen about eight months prior to this visit. Our dog showed uncommon combination of diseases that could cause PLE since it was affected by inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), intestinal lymphangiectasia (IL), and exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI). The dog had most of the abnormalities found in IL, as well as hypoalbuminemia, hyperglobulinemia, lymphopenia, hypocalcemia, and hypercholesterol

Thoracic lymph node metastasis and carcinomatous lymphangitis after inoculation of Walker 256 tumor through the trachea.

1. Experimental models of carcinomatous lymphangitis have not been described. This is an important clinical entity which usually results in the patients' death, although its natural history is still controversial. This study was undertaken to investigate whether the pattern of lung involvement after Walker 256 tumor inoculation through the trachea is a good model of carcinomatous lymphangitis. 2. Fifty male Wistar rats were inoculated through the trachea with 2.5 x 10(6) Walker 256 tumor cells and killed in groups of 5 animals each at 6 h and on days 1, 3, 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 45, and 60 of the

Lymphocyte subpopulations in Bancroftian filariasis: activated (DR+) CD8+ T cells in patients with chronic lymphatic obstruction.

To examine the relationship between lymphocyte phenotypes and states of activation in patients with Bancroftian filariasis, dual colour flow cytometry and concurrent in vitro cell culture were performed on normal individuals (NV; n = 15), and on patients with either asymptomatic microfilaraemia (MF; n = 12) or elephantiasis (CP; n = 11). In contrast to findings by others in a population with Brugian filariasis, the percentages of total B lymphocytes (CD19), T lymphocytes (CD3), helper/inducer T lymphocytes (CD4), and suppressor/cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CD8) in both patient groups were found to

Dentofacial changes and oral health status in mentally challenged children.

The study was carried out on 69 mentally challenged individuals. They were subjected to detailed clinical evaluation for dentofacial abnormalities and oral health status. Of the 69 mentally handicapped individuals 27 had Downs syndrome and 42 had cerebral palsy. Characteristic facial abnormalities were seen in children with Downs syndrome. In cerebral palsy, fracture maxillary anteriors were more evident. All the Downs syndrome cases had abnormal TMJ movements but in cerebral palsy only 35.7% of individuals had abnormal TMJ movements. In both the groups, submandibular lymph adenopathy was repo

Targeting glycolytic reprogramming by tsRNA-0032 for treating pathological lymphangiogenesis.

Lymphangiogenesis is vital for tissue fluid homeostasis, immune function, and lipid absorption. Abnormal lymphangiogenesis has been implicated in several diseases such as cancers, inflammatory, and autoimmune diseases. In this study, we elucidate the role of tsRNA-0032 in lymphangiogenesis and its molecular mechanism. tsRNA-0032 expression is significantly decreased in corneal suture model and human lymphatic endothelial cell (HLEC) model under inflammatory condition. Overexpression of tsRNA-0032 exerts anti-lymphangiogenic effects by inhibiting HLEC proliferation, migration, and tube formatio

PI3K/AKT/mTOR axis in vascular malformations: from molecular insights to targeted clinical trials.

BACKGROUND: Vascular malformations are congenital disorders characterized by abnormal blood and/or lymphatic vessels, often leading to pain, functional impairment, and severe complications. Recent advances in molecular genetics have identified key mutations and signaling pathway aberrations, particularly in the PI3K/AKT/mTOR axis, as critical contributors to the etiology of vascular malformations. MAIN BODY: The PI3K/AKT/mTOR axis regulates essential endothelial cell processes, including proliferation, migration, and metabolism. Aberrant activation of this pathway is strongly linked to slow-f

Role of biphosphonates and lymphatic drainage type Leduc in the complex regional pain syndrome (shoulder-hand syndrome).

BACKGROUND: Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a clinical entity that has been termed in numerous ways in the last years. Clinically, CRPS describes an array of painful conditions that are characterized by a continuing (spontaneous and/or evoked) regional pain that is seemingly disproportionate in time or degree to the usual course of any known trauma or other lesion. The pain is regional and usually has a distal predominance of abnormal sensory, motor, sudomotor, vasomotor, and/or trophic findings. DESIGN: Case report. SETTING: University Medical Center. Patients. In this report, we d

Correlation of lymphoscintigraphy with the number of sentinel lymph nodes identified intraoperatively in patients with breast cancer.

BACKGROUND: Numerous studies have evaluated the benefit of performing lymphoscintigraphy for the sentinel lymph node procedure in breast cancer patients. The purpose of this study is to determine if lymphoscintigraphy accurately predicts the number of radioactive sentinel lymph nodes (SLNs) identified during surgery for breast cancer patients. METHODS: From October 2001 to June 2004, SLN biopsy was attempted in 112 patients with breast cancer using a combination of blue dye and radioisotope. Lymphoscintigraphy was performed in 98 of the patients. A lymph node was considered an SLN when it was

Cardiac effects of anthracycline treatment and their implications for aeromedical certification.

INTRODUCTION: In 1997 an autopsy on a professional pilot killed in an aircraft accident demonstrated myocardial fibrosis, thought to be the result of previous anthracycline treatment. The United Kingdom (UK) Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) was tasked with investigating the possible dangers to flight safety of treatment with this type of chemotherapy. METHODS: From CAA computer records of 18,319 professional license holders, 14 were identified as having received anthracycline treatment. These subjects underwent clinical cardiological examination, exercise and 24 h ambulatory electrocardiography
