The influence of short-(7 days) and long-term (28 days) hypokinesia on 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 metabolism was investigated in rats fed on a normal calcium (0.6%), normal phosphorus (0.6%), vitamin D-supplemented diet. Solubilization of liver microsomes of intact, phenobarbital-treated and 3-methylcholantrene-treated rats was investigated. The effect of N-bromosuccinimide (BSI) on micrococcal histidine decarboxylase in 0.07 M phosphate buffer, pH 5.6 was studied. The cause of the activity loss of alternative pathway of electron transport in mitochondria of the yeast Candida lipolytica has been investigated. Incubation of cyanide-resistant mitochondria at 25 degrees was shown to cause the loss by mitochondria of their ability to oxidize substrates in the presence of 1 mM cyanide. This suggests that in the course of incubation the alternative pathway loses its activity.
