Long-Term Risk of Subsequent Malignant Neoplasms Among Childhood and Adolescent Lymphoma Survivors (1975-2013): A Population-Based Predictive Nomogram.

BACKGROUND: Studies are needed to assess risk factors pertinent to the incidence of secondary malignancies among childhood and adolescent lymphoma survivors. We aimed to identify risk factors pertinent to the incidence of secondary malignancies and subsequently establish a clinically practical predictive nomogram. METHODS: A total of 5561 patients who were diagnosed with primary lymphoma below the age of 20 years between 1975 and 2013 and survived for at least 5 years were identified. Standardized incidence ratio (SIR) and excess risk (ER) analysis were performed by sex, age, and year when pr

Functional outcomes in total talus reconstruction with triangular double-barrel free fibula flap following oncological resection: A retrospective case series review.

BACKGROUND: With the advent of new techniques, foot salvage is feasible following talus oncological resection. As the reconstruction aims to achieve a pain-free, stable ankle for ambulation, biological limb reconstruction is the best option. This case series will evaluate the primary indications, complications, and functional outcomes of the reconstructed talus and highlighting the technical aspects of the surgery with a novel technique of triangular double-barrel free fibula flap. METHODS: We performed a retrospective case note review of patients undergoing foot salvage surgeries and primary

Three-Dimensional Printing-based Reconstruction of a Maxillary Bone Defect in a Dog Following Tumor Removal.

Three-dimensional (3D) printing has been applied extensively not only in human, but also veterinary medicine. However, the technique is still used in the clinical area for a surgical plan or education prior to surgery. Thus, we report a case of reconstruction after tumor removal surgery with the use of a 3D-printed scaffold. A 12-year-old female mixed dog had a left caudal maxillary mass. Based on computed tomography images, a defect was confirmed on the maxillary bone due to the oral mass, and a surgical plan was designed to remove the oral mass and graft the 3D printed scaffold. Customized p

A novel technique for the prophylactic plating of the osteocutaneous radial forearm flap donor site.

The osteocutaneous radial forearm free flap (ORFFF) provides a suitable composite construct for reconstruction of head and neck defects. Initial acceptance of the ORFFF during the 1980s waned significantly as long-term outcome studies demonstrated a high incidence of donor-site fractures associated with harvesting a segment of the cortical radius. Biomechanical and clinical studies have demonstrated a significant improvement in the mechanical strength of ostectomized long bones after prophylactic plating. Our case report identifies a novel technique for rigid fixation using a low-contact, lock

[-Lesser known stress fractures-].

Stress fractures of the tibia may disclose a longitudinal orientation which is obvious at bone scanning; a mild periostosis may appear on plain films; CT demonstrates a radially-oriented fracture in one aspect of the diaphyseal cortex. A cortical dissection-like vertically oriented insufficiency fracture may involve the medial aspect of the femoral shaft underlying the lesser trochanter; the fracture is concentric to the femoral cortex at CT. Insufficiency fractures of the sacrum may be misdiagnosed on plain films; bone scanning displays a typical H-shaped increased uptake which is a specific

Clinical characteristics, genomic profiling, treatments, and outcomes of Langerhans cell sarcoma.

BACKGROUND: Langerhans cell sarcoma (LCS), an exceptionally rare and aggressive neoplasm, remains poorly characterized due to its scarcity. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted a retrospective analysis of 13 LCS patients. This retrospective study included patients ≥ 18 years old with biopsy proven LCS from October 2015 to April 2025. RESULTS: The median age at diagnosis was 59 years (range: 33–71). The most commonly affected organs were the subcutaneous soft tissue (61.5%), followed by lymph nodes (53.8%), skin (30.8%), and bone (23.1%). CBL was the most common mutation, detected in fou

Reconstruction of Aggressive Grade 3 Calcaneal Giant Cell Tumour with Femoral Head Allograft: A Case Report.

Giant Cell Tumour (GCT) of bone is a benign, locally aggressive neoplasm. GCT of the foot is rare, comprising of about 5% of cases of all GCTs. GCT of Calcaneus is exceedingly rare, comprising of 1.2% of all calcaneal tumours. Due to its uncommon occurrence at this site, diagnosis can be delayed. In this report, we present the case of a Campanacci Grade 3 GCT of calcaneus in a 43-year-old female patient with 8 months history of worsening pain and disability. We treated her successfully by resection of Os-calcis and reconstruction with a femoral head allograft and K-wire fixation, a relatively

The NFIA::CBFA2T3 identifies a molecularly defined subgroup of acute erythroid leukemia/erythroid sarcoma.

INTRODUCTION: The World Health Organization classification of tumors of hematopoietic and lymphoid tissues recognizes acute erythroid leukemia as a distinct entity under myeloid neoplasms. Erythroblastic sarcoma, also known as extramedullary erythroid sarcoma, is defined as a rare extramedullary tumor composed of erythroid precursors, typically occurring outside the bone marrow. While both entities involve immature erythroid precursors and share similar histology, acute erythroid leukemia is a systemic marrow-based leukemia, whereas erythroblastic sarcoma is a localized mass-forming lesion. BRAF p.V600E-negative low-grade adenocarcinoma of the mandible with features of sialadenopapillary ductal tumor and prominent mucinous differentiation: report of a unique case.

Cutaneous tubular adenoma (TA), also known as tubulopapillary hidradenoma, is a rare benign sweat gland tumor. In the oral cavity, 2 groups of glandular neoplasms morphologically similar to cutaneous TA have been previously described, under the names tubulopapillary hidradenoma-like tumor of the mandible (TPHLTM) and sialadenoma papilliferum-like intraductal papillary tumor (SP-IPT), respectively. Recent evidence suggests that sialadenoma papilliferum, SP-IPT, and TPHLTM may form a biological continuum, and a unifying term, sialadenopapillary ductal tumor (SDT), has been proposed for these les

A case report and literature review on positive outcomes achieved through radiotherapy in a patient with composite hemangioendothelioma.

BACKGROUND: Composite hemangioendothelioma (CHE) is a rare borderline vascular neoplasm, typically characterized by a heterogeneous composition of benign, intermediate, and malignant vascular elements. Metastasis occurs occasionally, yet local recurrence remains relatively common. CHE frequently manifest in the deep dermis and subcutaneous soft tissues of the distal limbs, and are rarely observed in bone or vertebral column. We present a case that originally occurred in the lumbar spine. CASE PRESENTATION: A 75-year-old male patient presented with progressively worsening pain in the lumbar an

A Case of Large Meningeal Epithelioid Hemangioendothelioma With WWTR1-CAMTA1 Gene Rearrangement and Slow Growth Over 15 Years.

Epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE) is a rare vascular neoplasm predominantly occurring in the soft tissue. A majority of EHE cases is driven by a WW domain containing transcription regulator protein 1 (WWTR1)-calmodulin-binding transcription activator 1 (CAMTA1) gene fusion. The clinical course of EHE ranges from long-term favorable to rapidly aggressive. Few cases of intracranial EHE have been reported, none of which has been molecularly proven. We report a case of left parietal meningeal EHE, which was resected 15 years after initial radiological detection. Four years prior to surgery, a

Extramedullary plasmacytoma associated with an ectopic tooth in the nasal cavity.

Extramedullary plasmacytoma and tooth eruption into the nasal cavity are both rare events. We report a case of plasmacytoma associated with an ectopic tooth. To the best of our knowledge, such a case has not been previously reported in the literature. A 63-year-old woman presented for evaluation of an 8-month history of a bloody nasal discharge from the posterior naris. Nasal endoscopy detected a slight eminence approximately 0.5 cm in diameter in the right nasal floor. Computed tomography demonstrated a tooth-like, high-attenuation shadow. A biopsy identified chronic inflammation of the mucos

Lymphomatous variant of hairy cell leukaemia: a distinctive presentation mimicking low-grade B-cell lymphoma.

AIMS: Hairy cell leukaemia (HCL) is an indolent B-cell neoplasm that primarily involves the peripheral blood, bone marrow, and spleen. Rarely, patients with HCL present with a lymphoma-like clinicopathological picture mimicking other types of low-grade B-cell lymphoma. Distinguishing HCL from other types of lymphoma is essential, given the different treatments and prognoses. We report two cases of the lymphomatous variant of HCL to draw attention to this unusual presentation. METHODS AND RESULTS: Two cases of HCL presented initially as salivary gland and soft tissue masses. Morphologically, t

Perioperative problems and treatment of a teenager with a juvenile angiofibroma refusing blood transfusion.

OBJECTIVES: Juvenile angiofibroma is a benign, non-encapsulated neoplasm, consisting of vascular and connective tissue. Its main feature is a local malignancy. In its clinical course it destroys adjoining structures, without metastasizing. It appears rarely, and is mainly found in boys at puberty. Among theories about the aetiology of juvenile angiofibroma, we must consider a haematoma-like lesion, an angioma with an extended fibrous component, or type of inflammatory allergic polyp. In the development of the lesion the participation of hormonal disorders on the pituitary gland-gonad axis is a
