Multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN1) is a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized by primary hyperparathyroidism, enteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, and anterior pituitary adenomas. A 16-year-old male presented to the emergency outpatient clinic with tonic convulsions. Physical examination in the postconvulsive period was unremarkable and revealed a muscular, postpubertal adolescent. Biochemical tests at admission were consistent with hyperinsulinemic hypoglycemia and remarkable for elevated levels of liver transaminases and creatine kinase. Work-up for a potential inborn error of m

CASE REPORT: We describe a case with tethered cord syndrome due to the association of intradural lipoma and a dermoid cyst at the filum terminale that had an unusual magnetic resonance (MR) appearance.
DISCUSSION: Although both pathologies usually demonstrate a similar intensity on MR images, the involvement of a capsule filled with hair in the dermoid cyst, which presented hypointensity, may be a clue to be differentiated from lipoma on preoperative MR images.

A case of unilateral linear basal cell nevus, diffuse osteoma cutis, unilateral anodontia, and abnormal bone mineralization is reported. Unlike the anodontia, the unilateral linear basal cell nevus and osteoma cutis began to appear in adulthood. A hamartomatous process is suggested to explain these conditions. This complex syndrome has not been reported in the literature.

Of 48 patients with chromaffin tumors observed at the Institute of Pathology of the University of Zurich between 1971 and 1982, 10 (20.9%) had a typical associated disease: 6 patients (12.5%) had Sipple's syndrome, 2 von Recklinghausen's neurofibromatosis, and 2 others von Hippel-Lindau's disease. The origin common to all these disorders involves the neuroectoderm. In the presence of one of these diseases the possibility of an occult chromaffin tumor must be considered. Familial occurrence of chromaffin tumors was observed in 5 patients (10.5%): 3 (of two families) had Sipple's syndrome, while

Two brothers developed multiple primary neoplasms in childhood; one had glioblastoma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma at age 11 years, and the other brain tumor and acute leukemia at six years. A third brother died with myelogenous leukemia at thre years, and a fourth with cyanotic congenital heart disease at 11 weeks. Each child also had at least one hamartomatous lesion of the skin. The clinical features suggested von Recklinghausen's neurofibromatosis or other inherited cancer syndrome, but laboratory studies identified no markers of susceptibility to familial neoplasia.

BACKGROUND: Synchronous or metachronous multiple primary malignancies (MPMs) are a known phenomenon. These occurrences may be spontaneous or related to environmental risk factors or genetic predisposition. Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) and Multiple myeloma (MM) are two uncommon hematologic malignancies, arises from two different cell lineage. The coexistence of CML and MM that is a rare phenomenon, with only 29 cases reported in the literature. To the best of our, this combination of triple primary cancers has not been reported in a single patient.
CASE PRESENTATION: Herein, we reported

To clarify the significance of bone marrow fibrosis and amyloid deposition in plasma cell neoplasm, a retrospective cross-sectional study for a period of 3 years was conducted. Patients who underwent bone marrow aspiration and biopsy with suspicion of plasma cell neoplasms were included in the study. The bone marrow findings were correlated with clinical profile of the patient along with biochemical parameters, cytogenetics, Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) wherever available. A total of 273 bone marrow aspirates and biopsies of patients with suspected plasma cell neoplasms were analyz

INTRODUCTION: Fibrillary glomerulonephritis (FGN) is a rare form of immune complex-mediated primary glomerular disease frequently coexisting with malignancies or autoimmune diseases. The kidney prognosis is extremely poor, with approximately 50% of patients progressing to end-stage kidney disease within 2-4 years after diagnosis. However, no established treatment currently exists.
CASE PRESENTATION: Here we describe a rare case of FGN diagnosed in a patient progressing from monoclonal gammopathy to multiple myeloma. The histopathological findings of the kidney biopsy were consistent with clas

Although the Janus family of kinases (JAK1, JAK2, JAK3, and TYK2) has been extensively characterized and investigated, the role of Janus kinase activation in the pathogenesis and therapy of human malignancies was not fully appreciated until recently when multiple studies identified a recurrent somatic mutation in the JAK2 tyrosine kinase (JAK2V617F) in the majority of patients with BCR-ABL-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN), polycythemia vera, essential thrombocytosis, and primary myelofibrosis. Other mutations that activate the JAK-STAT signaling pathway have since been identified in

Extracranial metastasis of primary central nervous system neoplasms is uncommon and has not been described in the dog. We report the clincopathologic features of intracranial meningioma with pulmonary metastasis in three dogs (case No. 1: 13-year-old castrated male Boxer dog; case No. 2: 14-year-old spayed female Dachshund; case No. 3: 6-year-old spayed female German Shepherd Dog). Case No. 1 presented with ataxia, lethargy, vomiting, and leaning and falling to the right, and had a transient remission following radiation and corticosteroid therapy; case No. 2 had a history of seizures that wer

BACKGROUND: Two or more primary cancers that arise in two different patients are referred to as multiple primary cancers. We record those cases because optimal therapy requires interdisciplinary cooperation.
CASE 1: A 53-year-old male presented with intermittent hematuria for one year, fever, burning micturition, appetite loss, and a 3 kg weight loss over 2 months. His CBC showed 81% atypical cells, and bone marrow aspiration and flow cytometry indicated Precursor B-ALL. He started on the BFM-2002-protocol but had persistent hematuria. The USG of the whole abdomen revealed a urinary bladder m

Small cell carcinoma (SCC) is a malignancy that mainly occurs in the lung, with primary lesions in the head and neck being very rare. This neoplasm has an aggressive growth pattern, high recurrence rate, and tendency to metastasize to other sites via the lymphatics and bloodstream. The prognosis of patients with SCC is poor, as the 5-year survival is only 13%. Treatment options include surgical excision, multiple-agent chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. We report a rare case of primary SCC of the nasal cavity presenting as a lesion of the hard palate and describe its clinical, histologic, an

Giant cell tumors are neoplasms that usually occur in the long bones of young adults. They can rarely present in the soft tissue and may display malignant behavior. Giant cell malignancies have previously been reported as tumors primary of the uterus but are exceptionally rare. Although uncommon, it is important to consider when a neoplasm with osteoclast-like giant cells is encountered. In this report, we describe a 70-year-old female patient with an unremarkable past history who presented with an enlarged uterus. Transvaginal ultrasound demonstrated multiple fibroids and a thickened endometr

Metastasis of pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is rare and usually presented as a locoregional recurrence developed many years after excision of the primary tumor although the PA is the most common neoplasm in the parotid gland. We described a case of a 48-year-old male with a parotid tumor with multiple enlarged ipsilateral lymph nodes which suggested a malignancy. The tumors had been neither evaluated nor excised and preoperative evaluation revealed benign PA in both lesions. After the complete surgical excision, the final pathology was notable for benign PA with metastasis to regional lymph nodes.

OBJECTIVE: To present a unique case of a 63 year-old woman with coexistent adenocarcinoma of the ovary, endometrium, cervix and fallopian tube.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A case report from a tertiary health center.
RESULTS: A woman presenting with postmenopausal bleeding and abdominal distantion was assessed by endometrial biopsy and explorative surgery. The frozen section of the mass on the right adnex revealed malign mucinous carcinoma of the ovary. As usual, optimal debulking was performed as initial surgical staging procedure of ovarian cancer. The microscopic examination of the right ovary

Ameloblastic carcinoma is a rare primary tumor of the maxillofacial skeleton with a distinct predilection for the mandible. These lesions may initially show histologic features of ameloblastoma that dedifferentiate over time. Other ameloblastic carcinomas initially present with morphologic features suggestive of ameloblastoma with areas of epithelial dedifferentiation. We herein report a rare case of aggressive ameloblastic carcinoma in a 22-year-old white man who developed widespread bony metastases and expired 4 years after initial diagnosis.
