On the therapeutic action of alpidem in anxiety disorders: an overview of the European data.

This review analyzes the available data on the therapeutic activity of alpidem in various anxiety syndromes. Up to now, 17 studies have been completed in Europe, dealing with a total population of more than 1500 patients suffering from either chronic (n = 987) or situational anxiety (n = 400). In a series of five placebo-controlled double-blind studies in situations of stress-induced anxiety (gastroscopy, minor surgery, cardiac catheterization), the therapeutic efficacy of alpidem was evident in 53% of the patients and significantly (P less than 0.001) superior to that of placebo (30%). Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item (GAD-7) and 2-item (GAD-2) scales for detecting anxiety disorders in adults.

BACKGROUND: Anxiety disorders often remain undetected and can cause substantial burden. Amongst the many anxiety screening tools, the 7-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) scale and its short version, the 2-item Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-2) scale, are the most frequently used instruments. OBJECTIVES: Primary: to determine the diagnostic accuracy of GAD-7 and GAD-2 to detect generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) and any anxiety disorder (AAD) in adults. Secondary: to investigate whether their diagnostic accuracy varies by setting, anxiety disorder prevalence, reference standard, and

Cannabis Use and Prospective Long-Term Association with Anxiety: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Longitudinal Studies: Usage du cannabis et association prospective à long terme avec l'anxiété: une revue systématique et une méta-analyse d'études longitudinales.

OBJECTIVES: Cannabis use is proposed as a risk factor for psychosis and is associated with depressive disorders. However, the relationship between recreational cannabis use and its longitudinal implications on anxiety conditions is less studied. The aim of this investigation is to systematically evaluate published literature and perform a meta-analysis of the data. METHODS: A systematic search was performed of MEDLINE, Embase, and PsychINFO from inception to May 31, 2020, in addition to a hand search. Longitudinal studies that evaluated the relationship of cannabis use and development of anxi

Prevalence of test anxiety among medical students: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Test anxiety is a situation-specific construct that can markedly impair cognitive functioning and academic performance in high-stakes educational environments. Medical students are frequently exposed to evaluative situations, and test anxiety is common in this population; however, reported prevalence estimates vary widely due to methodological inconsistencies across studies. Therefore, we aimed to estimate the pooled prevalence of test anxiety among medical students. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science in March 2026, supplemented by backward and forward

Cognitive and Emotional Determinants of Subthalamic Oscillations During Freezing While Turning in Parkinson's Disease.

Freezing of gait (FoG) in Parkinson's disease (PD) is a disabling phenomenon that, beyond motor impairment, involves cognitive and emotional processes. However, their unique mechanisms and contributions to FoG remain unclear. In this study, we examined whether the severity of cognitive and emotional symptoms was associated with subthalamic nucleus (STN) oscillatory activity during freezing while turning. Local field potentials (LFPs) were recorded from the STN of 13 individuals with PD during both effective turning and freezing while turning. Given that the modulation of STN-LFPs during cognit

Associations of perfectionism dimensions with perceived stress and anxiety symptoms among Chinese undergraduates in sport-related majors: a multi-site cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Undergraduates in sport-related majors may face overlapping academic, practical, physical-performance, and, for some students, training and competition demands. Perfectionism dimensions may shape how these demands are appraised. OBJECTIVE: To examine the associations of High Standards, Order, and Discrepancy with perceived stress and anxiety symptoms among Chinese undergraduates in sport-related majors, including cross-sectional indirect associations through empirically supported perceived-stress components. METHODS: A multi-site cross-sectional survey included 705 full-time unde

[Anxiety disorders in older adults].

Prevalence of anxiety disorders is high in the elderly (between 3.2 and 14.2% of the subjects) with, by order of frequency, phobic disorders and generalized anxiety disorder rank ahead of panic disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder or post-traumatic stress disorder. Anxiety disorders very often start in adulthood and become chronic thereafter. It should be pointed out that each anxiety disorder has clinical characteristics that are modified with aging. Among the psychiatric comorbidity, depressive disorders and addictions, mainly to alcohol, especially stand out. Very few studies on anxiety

Influence of alcohol on social anxiety: an investigation of attentional, physiological and behavioral effects.

Social anxiety disorder and alcohol use disorders are highly comorbid. It remains unclear, however, if and how alcohol influences attentional processes and physical symptoms in social anxiety. In a balanced-placebo-design, high and normally socially anxious participants gave a speech while performing a task, which simultaneously measures internal and external attention. Only high anxious participants showed a preferential processing of external probes, which was eliminated by alcohol or the mere expectation of drinking alcohol. Furthermore, alcohol reduced facial blushing as well as self-repor

Genetically determined causality between immune cells and anxiety disorders: A Mendelian randomization study.

Prior investigations have endeavored to unveil the connection between immune cells and anxiety disorders. However, the majority are limited to a single or few indicators and have not comprehensively evaluated the causal relationship between immune cells and anxiety disorders. In this study, we performed a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis to assess the relationship between 731 immune phenotypes and anxiety disorders, offering genetic evidence to substantiate the correlation between immune phenotypes and the risk of anxiety disorders. Using publicly available data from genome-wid

Cultural validation of the RCADS and use of ensemble learning for symptom profiling of anxiety and depression.

INTRODUCTION: Depression and anxiety are the most prevalent global mental health concerns, especially among children and adolescents. Numerous screening tools are available to readily detect these issues. The cultural significance of these tools in specific communities should be validated, as socio-demographic factors can influence psychopathology. Moreover, screening tools are limited to the identification of a disorder and do not highlight critical symptoms that may be more dominant in disease progression. METHODS: In this study, a community sample of 237 Pakistani children and adolescents
