BACKGROUND: Tension pneumoperitonium is a rare complication during bronchoscopy that can cause acute respiratory and hemodynamic failure, with fatal consequences. Isolated pneumoperitonium during bronchoscopy usually results from ruptures of the abdominal viscera that need surgical repair. Today, laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the method of choice for treatment of symptomatic gallbladder disorders. It minimizes effects of the operation that are independent of the gallbladder, such as trauma to the abdominal wall and other soft tissue.
