Photoelectrochemical detection of hyaluronidase activity via enzyme-mediated release of hyaluronic acid-functionalized CdS quantum dots.

At the forefront of analytical detection technologies, photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensing platforms offer significant advantages due to their unique photo-electric synergistic mechanism, with excellent photoactive materials being fundamental for high sensitivity. In this study, we present a novel PEC composite, formed by covalently coupling polyethyleneimine (PEI)-functionalized CuInZnS nanoflowers (CIZS) and hyaluronic acid (HA)-functionalized CdS quantum dots (QDs). This innovative composite constructs a robust PEC bioanalytical platform for effective detection of hyaluronidase (HAase), a cr…

An ultrasensitive electrochemiluminescent aptasensor comprising mesoporous polydopamine covered with CdTe quantum dots for organophosphorus pesticide detection.

The development of sensitive devices for toxic organophosphorus pesticide detection is critical to monitor their environmental presence. In this study, we designed an ultrasensitive electrochemiluminescence-resonance energy transfer (ECL-RET) aptasensor sensing diazinon (DZN) with a limit of detection of only 0.42 fg/mL. The main component of our device was thioglycolic-acid-coated CdTe quantum dots anchored on a mesoporous polydopamine scaffold modified with poly (diallyl dimethylammonium) chloride (MPDAP-TCdTe QDs). This composite material was assembled to optimize the display of TCdTe QDs o…

A theragenerative bio-nanocomposite consisting of black phosphorus quantum dots for bone cancer therapy and regeneration.

Recently, the term theragenerative has been proposed for biomaterials capable of inducing therapeutic approaches followed by repairing/regenerating the tissue/organ. This study is focused on the design of a new theragenerative nanocomposite composed of an amphiphilic non-ionic surfactant (Pluronic F127), bioactive glass (BG), and black phosphorus (BP). The nanocomposite was prepared through a two-step synthetic strategy, including a microwave treatment that turned BP nanosheets (BPNS) into quantum dots (BPQDs) with 5 ± 2 nm dimensions in situ. The effects of surfactant and microwave treatment …

Composite diatom fluorescent sensor substrate enriched with CdSe/ZnS quantum dots on the surface by biofabrication.

Diatoms have developed unique micro- and nanostructures and photonic crystal properties during billions of years of life evolution. In this study, a fluorescence sensor substrate (QD-Diatom) was prepared by biofabrication, and CdSe/ZnS quantum dots (QDs) were immobilized on the surface of diatom biosilica. The concentration of CdSe/ZnS QDs of 7.5×10-3 nmol/mL showed no significant toxicity to the growth of the diatom, which is considered suitable for biofabrication. QD-Diatom preserves the porous structure of diatoms and improves the fluorescence stability of quantum dots. Upon binding to DBs,…

Improved photoluminescence stability and defect passivation in SbBr3 post-treated CsPbBr3 quantum dots under ambient conditions.

Inorganic cesium lead halide perovskites have evoked wide popularity because of their excellent optoelectronic properties, high photoluminescence (PL) quantum yield (PLQY), and narrowband emission. Here, cesium lead bromide (CsPbBr3 ) quantum dots (QDs) were synthesized via the ligand-assisted re-precipitation method. Post-synthesis treatment of CsPbBr3 QDs using antimony tribromide improved the PL stability and optoelectronic properties of the QDs. In addition, the PLQY of the post-treated sample was enhanced to 91% via post-treatment, and the luminescence observed was maintained for 8 days. …

Characterization and cytotoxicity assessment of cadmium sulfide quantum dots synthesized with Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici.

The potential of CdS quantum dots for biomedical and bioimaging applications depends on their cytotoxicity, which can be modulated by coating molecules. Using sulfur as a precursor can be used along with cadmium nitrate to synthesize CdS quantum dots with the fungus Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. lycopersici. The latter replaces pure chemical sulfur as a precursor for CdS quantum dot synthesis, thus transforming waste into a value-added product, increasing sustainability, reducing the environmental impact of the process through the implementation of green synthesis techniques, and contributing to t…

This work reports the development and application of a highly selective core@shell-based quantum dot-molecularly imprinted polymer (QD@MIP) sensor for the detection of sulfadiazine (SDZ)-an antibiotic which belongs to the sulfonamide family. The synthesis of the smart material or MIP (molecularly imprinted polymer) was carried out by a precipitation method directly on the quantum dot surface, which played the role of a fluorescent probe in the optical sensor. The synthesized polymer was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. Fluorescence expe

ZnF2-Assisted Synthesis of Highly Luminescent InP/ZnSe/ZnS Quantum Dots for Efficient and Stable Electroluminescence.

High-quality InP-based quantum dots (QDs) have become very promising, environmentally benign light emitters for display applications, but their synthesis generally entails hazardous hydrofluoric acid. Here, we present a highly facile route to InP/ZnSe/ZnS core/shell/shell QDs with a near-unity photoluminescence quantum yield. As the key additive, the inorganic salt ZnF2 mildly reacts with carboxylic acid at a high temperature and in situ generates HF, which eliminates surface oxide impurities, thus facilitating epitaxial shell growth. The resulting InP/ZnSe/ZnS QDs exhibit a narrower emission …

Manipulating Reaction Intermediates to Aqueous-Phase ZnSe Magic-Size Clusters and Quantum Dots at Room Temperature.

It is not resolved which model describes better the aqueous-phase nucleation and growth of semiconductor quantum dots (QDs), the classical one-step one or the nonclassical multi-step one. Here, we design a room-temperature reaction to trap reaction intermediates in the prenucleation stage of ZnSe QDs (as a model system). We show that the trapped intermediate can transform to magic-size clusters (MSCs) via intra-molecular reorganization and can fragment to enable the growth of QDs. The MSCs exhibit a sharp optical absorption peaking at 299 nm, labelled MSC-299. The intermediate, the precursor c…
