Two years follow-up of 46 patients with colorectal carcinoma resected "for cure" shows that of the nine patients with an elevated (less than 5 ng/ml) CEA plasma titer one to six months after surgery, only one, or 11%, had remained disease free. Of the 38 patients with normal (less than 5 ng/ml) plasma CEA, 27, or 71%, were free of disease two years after surgery. CT is an important diagnostic procedure in patients with suspected or known disease of the rectum. Knowledge of proper technique for CT of the rectum, as well as an understanding of normal pelvic anatomy, is essential to its effective use. Gastrointestinal stromal tumours (GISTs), are an extremely uncommon form of different types of gastrointestinal (GI) malignant neoplasms. While GISTs are the most prevalent type of mesenchymal tumours in the GI tract, they are mainly located in the stomach. Gastrointestinal stromal tumours in the rectum are rarely observed. Some individuals may exhibit symptoms such as constipation, pain in the rectum, bleeding per rectum, or palpable growth, while others may be discovered incidentally. The prevalence of GISTs has been increasing, potentially as a result of developments in imaging techniques.

Leiomyoma is the most common mesenchymal tumor in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. This is a case report of a 53-yr-old gentleman with soft tissue inflammation of the thigh, secondary to delayed radionecrosis of rectum. He presented with this condition, one-and-half years after he had pre-operative radiotherapy and low anterior resection for Dukes'B adenocarcinoma of rectum. In this report we emphasise the need for the clinician to be alert of this delayed side-effect of pre-operative radiotherapy and also the need for patients receiving high-dose radiotherapy to be warned of this possible complication, although it is rare.
