Robotic-assisted Left Pneumonectomy For Vanishing Lung Syndrome.

Vanishing Lung Syndrome (VLS) is a rare, severe form of bullous pulmonary disease characterized by giant bullae occupying more than 30% of the hemithorax, which can easily be misdiagnosed as a pneumothorax. While cigarette smoking is the primary cause, other factors such as Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency have also been associated with the condition. Surgical management, including pneumonectomy, remains the gold standard for severe VLS cases. This case report aims to highlight the effectiveness of the robotic approach and the benefits of robotic-assisted left pneumone

Robotic Single-Port Trans-stomal Hartmann Reversal.

BACKGROUND: The colostomy site provides natural access for a single-port Hartmann reversal, making it an ideal scar-sparing procedure. Although single-incision laparoscopic surgery for this purpose is technically challenging, the da Vinci SP robotic platform may overcome single-incision laparoscopic surgery limitations: its wristed instruments and 3-dimesional visualization could enhance the feasibility of a full single-port approach. IMPACT OF INNOVATION: The robotic single-port approach for Hartmann reversal retains all the advantages of a single-port access through the stoma site while ove

Robot-assisted targeting for osteoid osteoma: a systematic review.

Accurate nidus access is essential for treating osteoid osteoma, but the incremental contribution of physical robotic targeting should be distinguished from imaging, definitive treatment, and the wider care pathway. We systematically reviewed peer-reviewed human reports in which a robot physically positioned or constrained an instrument used for biopsy or treatment. PubMed/MEDLINE, Embase, Web of Science Core Collection, the Cochrane Library, Wanfang Data and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure were searched from inception through August 2026, without a final language restriction. DNA Molecular Robot for Osteosarcoma Therapy and Bone Regeneration.

Preventing tumor recurrence while promoting bone regeneration remains a major challenge for osteosarcoma implants after limb-salvage surgery. Herein, we developed a DNA molecular robot (DMR) that converts tumor microenvironment (TME) and near-infrared (NIR) stimuli into integrin-mediated mechanical forces, generating microtubule-targeting activity without drugs. The DNA-polypeptide chimera contains RGD peptides for integrin anchoring and allosteric DNA switches with tunable piconewton sensitivity. Under acidic TME and NIR irradiation, DMR modulates microtubule dynamics, suppresses adhesion pro

Hybrid Surgical Guidance in Urologic Robotic Oncological Surgery.

Urologic oncological surgery increasingly makes use of robotic systems to realize precise and minimally invasive resections, convent to shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times. The dexterity gains enabled through procedures such as robot-assisted (RA) prostatectomy have helped realize significant advancements in recent years. Complementing these effects via the used of hybrid tracers that illuminate surgical targets, i.e., cancerous tissue, has helped advance the surgical decision making via enhanced visualization. A well-known example is Indocyanine green (ICG)-Technetium-99m (99mTc)

Practical Approaches to High-Risk Anastomoses in Robotic Pancreatoduodenectomy.

BACKGROUND: Pancreatoduodenectomy (PD) is performed for the treatment of pancreatic head and periampullary tumors and is associated with relatively high postoperative morbidity and mortality. Traditionally conducted as open surgery, PD has evolved with the advent of minimally invasive techniques, including robotic-assisted approaches. RESULTS: As reported in the literature, minimally invasive PD is becoming a safe and effective alternative surgical approach. Clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic complications, such as fistulas and hemorrhage, remain among the most challenging issues af

Bibliometric analysis of robotic-assisted hepatobiliary and pancreaticosplenic surgery.

This study explored the academic evolution and main ecosystem of robotic hepatobiliary and pancreaticosplenic surgery from 2010 to 2025 using a bibliometric approach for comprehensive multidimensional literature analysis. The field transitioned from an initial stable phase (average of 14 annual articles) to rapid growth driven by technological iterations, the accumulation of clinical evidence, and resource reallocation. The post-2016 decline in average annual citation rates reflects field maturity and research diversification rather than a reduced impact. A complementary journal system dissemi

Design of Magnetic Actuated Capsule Robot for Liquid Sampling.

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to introduce a biopsy capsule robot based on the negative pressure suction principle to achieve liquid sampling in the digestive tract. METHODS: The proposed capsule robot is designed with a magnetic spring configuration. By controlling the direction of an external magnetic field, the suction port can be aligned with the target sampling area. The sampling operation can then be achieved by increasing the external field to start the magnetic spring and a negative pressure can be generated to achieve the liquid sampling. Moreover, a locking mechanism is designed to pre

Robotic Right Anterior Sectionectomy with Extraglissonean Approach for HCC.

BACKGROUND: Robotic surgery is gaining momentum in liver resection due to its three-dimensional (3D) magnified view and articulated instrumentation.1 However, some criticism has been raised regarding the anatomical "quality" of parenchymal transection planes in the absence of a specific instrument for parenchymal transection usable by the console's surgeon. Major hepatectomy is traditionally required in case of large hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) (> 5 cm), however, recent data suggest that minor resections may yield similar outcomes when technically feasible and oncologically adequate.2 This

Endodontic Microsurgery of Mandibular Molars with an Autonomous Robotic System.

Minimally invasive osteotomy and precise root-end resection are key factors in endodontic microsurgery (EMS), particularly in the mandibular molars. Autonomous robotic (ATR) systems facilitate accurate presurgical planning and real-time robot-guided osteotomy and root resection. Integrating the ATR technique with EMS can enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of the treatment. This report presents 2 cases diagnosed with symptomatic apical periodontitis in the mandibular left and right first molar. Cone-beam computed tomography and intraoral scanning data were used to design the surgical plan v

Current Status and Pending Developments of Robotic Tele-Echocardiography.

Echocardiography is the gateway to appropriate therapy for many cardiovascular diseases, but access to this test is sometimes challenging. The consequence is that patients in rural and remote areas need to travel for testing, and the resulting time and monetary costs may prove a barrier, especially for hospital inpatients. Delays in obtaining echocardiograms lead to delayed diagnosis and treatment. Technological advances in miniaturization and processing power, and reductions in cost, have enabled diagnostic images to be obtained from inexpensive echocardiography machines. However, imaging by

Huscher modified technique for robotic pancreaticojejunostomy: a video report.

Pancreaticojejunostomy (PJ) is a critical step in pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD), often complicated by the risk of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF). This video report demonstrates a novel robotic PJ technique employing a self-expandable metallic stent. The method involves the use of the Da Vinci Xi robotic system and the WallFlex™ Biliary RX Stent for improved anastomotic support, particularly in high-risk cases defined by soft pancreatic texture and narrow duct diameter (<3 mm). Key steps include precise deployment of the self-expandable stent using a modified Seldinger technique and com

The Pregnant Surgeon: Welcoming the Advanced Ergonomics of Robotic Surgery.

The detrimental effect of poor operative ergonomics in surgery cannot be underestimated. It's associated with negative outcomes such as increased burn-out, fatigue, clinically relevant pain, and early retirement. Pregnancy creates additional challenges for female surgeons to prevent injury while adjusting to anthropometric changes that are difficult to accommodate for using open and laparoscopic surgical techniques. The robotic platform has been associated with improved ergonomic capabilities while maintaining dexterity and access. Robotic surgery will likely chaperone in a new era of possibil
