Salvage of diffuse ankle osteomyelitis, especially in compromised hosts, is a challenging problem. The purpose of this report was to evaluate early complications and results using a standardized salvage protocol. Eight patients with diffuse ankle osteomyelitis were treated by resection of all infected tiissue and hybrid-frame compression arthrodesis. At presentation, five had open wounds. According to the Cierny/Mader classification, all had diffuse anatomic involvement and six of eight were compromised hosts. Seven had central distal tibial column involvement and one had primarily talar invol

BACKGROUND: Traditional repair of aortic arch aneurysms requires cardiopulmonary bypass, hypothermia and circulatory arrest. Endovascular repair is an attractive, less invasive alternative that may change our therapeutic approach. The aim of this study was to review our clinical experience with endovascular treatment of aortic arch aneurysms and to address the new problems in this area.
METHODS: In the last 5 years, we treated 21 patients for aortic arch pathology with an "off-pump" endovascular repair (18 men, 3 women, mean age 71.4 +/- 7.2 years). We used 26 stent grafts (5 Gore Excluder TA

We report a retrospective study of 14 Peptostreptococcus magnus bone and joint infections, following orthopaedic prostheses or implantation of fixation devices, diagnosed in two Paris hospitals between 1992 and 1996. Five patients experienced a knee joint infection after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with 4 artificial grafts, and 9 caught joint or wound infections, after limb traumatic injuries or bone neoplastic ruptures involving femur, tibia, calcaneum and humerus, treated by arthroplasty or osteosynthesis with implantation of biomaterials. Septic arthritis was experienced one w

BACKROUND: Implants for open reduction and internal fixation of distal femoral fracture includes angle blade plate, rush nails, enders nail and interlocking nails. But all these devices are technically demanding and less effective in providing inter-fragmentary compression in osteoporotic bones. These problems can be solved with dynamic condylar screw (DCS).The objective of the study was to determine the frequency of different outcomes of distal femoral fracture treated with dynamic condylar screw.
METHODS: This case series study was carried out in the Department of Trauma & Orthopaedics, Ayu

From 1976 to 1992, 24 knees (24 patients) were treated for reinfection after reimplantation of a prosthesis to treat an infected total knee arthroplasty. Including the index total knee arthroplasty, the average number of total procedures for the affected knee was 9.3 procedures (range, 5-23 procedures), and surgical procedures used for the affected knee after reinfection averaged 3.7 procedures (range, 1-12 procedures). The final outcome included 10 knees with a successful knee arthrodeses, 5 patients with infected prostheses who were prescribed suppressive oral antibiotic treatment, 4 above t

Bone-modifying agents (BMAs) have been widely used to reduce skeletal-related events, including pathological fractures. Herein, we aimed to clarify the incidence of pathological fractures caused by high-risk femoral bone metastases after palliative radiotherapy (RT) in the BMA era and evaluate the necessity of prophylactic surgical stabilization. We assessed 90 patients with high-risk femoral bone metastases, indicated by Mirels' scores ≥ 8, without pathological fractures and surgical fixations, who received palliative RT at our institution between January 2009 and December 2018. Pathological

PURPOSE: Open reduction of mandibular fractures before internal fixation is most commonly performed by 1 of 2 methods: intermaxillary fixation (IMF) or manual reduction. There are risks to both patient and clinician associated with using IMF. Furthermore, previous retrospective studies have failed to show any advantage in its use. The purpose of this study was to directly compare the use of manual reduction (experimental group) and IMF (control group) in open reduction-internal fixation of mandibular fractures.

INTRODUCTION: Post-traumatic total knee arthroplasty for extra-articular malunion requires correction of the deformity, either through asymmetrical bone resection (possibly inducing ligaments imbalance) or osteotomy at the time of arthroplasty. We report the results of a continuous multicenter, retrospective series of 78 patients (18 implants with osteotomy) with a mean 4 years of follow-up. The hypothesis is that the selected procedure requires to be based on the deformity's location and severity.
PATIENTS: With a mean age of 63 years (younger in the osteotomy group), 38 patients had femoral

Miniplate osteosynthesis with 2.0-mm screws is being increasingly utilized in the treatment of mandibular fractures, midface fractures, zygomatic fractures, orthognathic surgery, and in craniomaxillofacial surgery. It enables better anatomic reduction, better stability of fracture lines, quick recovery and return of function. To examine complications related to its use, data were compiled from the preoperative, immediately postoperative, and 6-months' postsurgery examinations of 143 patients with isolated mandibular fractures. Sixteen of the patients (11.2%) presented with postoperative compli

Background One of the notable challenges in implant dentistry is the inadequacy of bone dimensions. While guided bone regeneration remains the standard approach for horizontal bone reconstruction, emerging new approaches such as the shell technique offer the potential for significant bone gain through effective space creation. This article presents a modified shell technique as a promising and practitioner-friendly solution for managing horizontal bone deficiencies before and during implant placement. This article aims to introduce a simplified and minimally invasive approach that enhances spa
