INTRODUCTION: The marginal fit of any dental restoration is vital to its long-term success. Lack of adequate fit is potentially detrimental to both the tooth and the supporting periodontal tissues. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal fit of monolithic zirconia, monolithic lithium disilicate and monolithic metal crowns and compare the three groups.
METHODS: The study was conducted by fabricating ten samples for each group, total of 30 samples. A premolar stainless steel die was used to standardize the preparation. PVS putty material was used to make impressions of the model

Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaws (MRONJ) is a challenging situation in clinics. Previous studies have shown that pentoxifylline combined with tocopherol proved to be beneficial in patients with osteoradionecrosis, due to their antioxidant and antifibrotic properties. The aim of this randomized study was to evaluate the effect of pentoxifylline and tocopherol in patients that had developed MRONJ after tooth extractions. The study population consisted of 202 Stage I MRONJ female patients with an average age of 66.4 ± 8.3 years, who were divided into two groups. The test group (n = 10

A survey was conducted within a practice-based dental research network to determine dentists' treatment methods for deep caries lesions and whether the dentists' intended treatment approaches were influenced by their expectations for pulpal exposure. The survey further examined how general dentistry practices have adopted scientific evidence of caries classification, excavation, and capping techniques. Dentists were queried regarding liner use, hypersensitivity considerations, point of endodontic therapy, and anticipated vitality outcomes from Class I resin-based composite restorations over th

This study examined, histologically, the healing of intentionally damaged root surfaces of replanted teeth with either uninfected or infected root canals treated with short- and long-term calcium hydroxide. Thirty beagle dog incisors were randomly divided into four groups. In group 1, uninfected obturated incisors were extracted, the roots were longitudinally grooved and the teeth were replanted within 2 min. In group 2 the root canals were artificially infected followed by extraction, longitudinal grooving, and replantation as described in group 1. Fourteen days after replantation, the root c

Introduction Dental caries and traumatic injuries often lead to tooth loss in adolescents and adults, necessitating endodontic treatment and subsequent restoration. Restoring such teeth presents a challenge due to varying degrees of substance loss. After endodontic treatment, the choice of an appropriate post is crucial for long-term stability. While metal posts are sturdy, they lack aesthetics and may cause root fractures. Fiber posts, such as carbon and glass fiber, offer improved aesthetics and mechanical properties, but their comparative performance warrants investigation. Materials and me

Enamel is the hardest tissue in mammalian organisms and is the layer covering the tooth. It consists of hydroxyapatite (HAP) crystallites, which mineralize on a protein scaffold known as the enamel matrix. Enamel matrix assembly is a very complex process mediated by enamel matrix proteins (EMPs). Altered HAP deposition or disintegration of the protein scaffold can cause enamel defects. Various methods have been established for enamel phenotyping, including MicroCT scanning with various resolutions from 9 µm for in vivo imaging to 1.5 µm for ex vivo imaging. With increasing resolution, we can s

Bioactive manganese (Mn)-doped ceramic coatings for intraosseous titanium (Ti) implants are developed. Arc plasma deposition procedure is used for coatings preparation. X-ray Diffraction, Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy, and Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) methods are applied for coatings characterization. The coatings are homogeneous, composed of the main phase α-tricalcium phosphate (α-TCP) (about 67%) and the minor phase hydroxyapatite (about 33%), and the Mn content is 2.3 wt%. EPR spectroscopy demonstrates that the Mn ions are incorporated in the TC

Root canal irrigation with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) is an indispensable part of the chemomechanical preparation of infected root canals in Endodontology. However, there is limited information on the emergence of toxic or hazardous volatile compounds (VOCs) from the interaction of NaOCl with the infected content of tooth biomaterials. The aim of this study was to assess the formation of VOCs and disinfection by-products (DBPs) following the interaction of NaOCl 2.5% v/v with a model system of different sources of natural organic matter (NOM) present in infected root canals, including dentine

Chronic periodontitis (CP), an infectious disease resulting in inflammation within the periodontal tissue, is the main cause of adult tooth loss. CP is a multi-factorial disorder and the interaction between multiple genetic and environmental factors results in the manifestation of this disease. Recent researches in periodontitis has focused on cytokine gene polymorphisms that play important role in periodontal inflammation, but few studies investigated histological change that occur during CP in the supporting tissue of teeth. The aims of this study were to investigate the association of IFN-γ
