We present a case of bacteremia caused by group G streptococci (GGS) and vertebral osteomyelitis in a homosexual man with amebic colitis. The organism likely entered the blood via the inflamed intestinal mucosa resulting from amebiasis. Arthritis of both hands, which probably represented poststreptococcal reactive arthritis, was also observed. We should be aware that diseases caused by GGS appear to be increasing in recent years, and a potential for serious infection exists with regard to GGS as well as group A streptococci.

Rho, a newly characterized acute-phase protein, was present in high titer in a group of 109 patients with various rheumatic diseases. Statistically significant titer elevations were demonstrated in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ankylosing spondylitis, and gout. In individual RA patients, serial titers failed to correlate with disease activity or with rheumatic seropositivity. The natural behavior ofrho antigen is contrasted with that of C-reactive protein. Comments are made regarding the possible association of rubella infection with rheumatoid arthritis.

BACKGROUND: Inflammatory arthritis is the most common late manifestation of untreated Lyme disease in the United States. While antimicrobial therapy is effective in resolving swelling and pain for 90% of patients, many patients have persistent inflammation, termed postinfectious Lyme arthritis (PILA). Current outcome measures for Lyme arthritis have several limitations, as improvement is considered a dichotomous outcome based solely on physical examination. There is growing interest in the use of ultrasonography to better define outcomes in inflammatory arthritis, and this is particularly rele

BACKGROUND: The periodontal condition has a reciprocal relationship with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Rheumatoid arthritis patients are reported to present with more serious periodontal disease (PD) as compared to non-RA patients.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of non-surgical periodontal treatment on Vietnamese patients with active RA and PD, where the clinical characteristics and serum indices of the patients were of interest.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: We conducted a randomized clinical trial (RCT) on 82 RA patients with PD. The patients were randomly divided into 2 groups:

A patient with coexistent Reiter's syndrome (RS) and tophaceous gout is described. The association of these two rheumatic diseases has not been previously reported. The reason for the rare association between gout and RS is unclear but possible explanations are reviewed. The diagnosis of gout should be considered in patients with RS who experience acute monoarticular or particular arthritis and characteristic cutaneous nodules.

Two cases of diagnostic mistakes of Reuter's disease in for children have been described. 7-year-old girl has been operated on for the suspicion on hematogenic osteomyelitis. The diagnosis was not confirmed. The symptoms of Reuter disease-right knee and hip joints synovitis-have appeared in postoperative period. A nonsignificant trauma in 9-year-old boy was the reason for the diagnosis of nontraumatic arthritis. Despite of Reuter's disease symptoms (arthritis, urethritis and conjunctivitis) the immobilization of extremities has been done. In 7 of 30 patients the Reuter's disease has not been d
