The present study was undertaken to explore the association between vitamin C nutritional status in pregnant women with premature rupture of the chorioamniotic membranes (PRM). A case-control cross-sectional study was carried out in 10 women with PRM and 19 women without PRM. The women were evaluated in the first hours postpartum while hospitalized: 10 ml of blood were obtained from each woman to determine vitamin C expressed as micrograms/10(8) leucocytes or microgram/mg of leucocyte protein. Biochemical indices of AA clearly showed that the young men in this study were brought into various states of AA depletion and repletion according to their dietary AA intakes. While previous studies have postulated that supplemental intakes of AA may adversely affect body status of vitamins B6 and B12, we found no changes in the B vitamin status of the young men receiving varying AA intakes. Moderate AA supplementation (605 mg/day) showed no antagonistic effect on markers of vitamins B6 and B12. The postoperative ascorbic acid requirements of 63 surgical patients were assessed by measurement of buffy layer leucocyte ascorbic acid and the ascorbic acid content of white blood cells. There was a significant reduction in ascorbic acid levels following surgery. The postoperative changes were unrelated to the extent of surgical trauma or the volume of blood transfused during surgery but there was a significant correlation between postoperative ascorbic acid measurements and white blood cell counts. The study reported here was undertaken to investigate the food intake and nutrient adequacy of rural population in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh. Workers aged 30-39 years engaged in the instrument-making industry were followed up during spring season. Their energy expenditure, actual nutrition and providing with vitamins were studied. The data obtained were correlated with the level of their total physical working capacity (TPWC). A significant imbalance in their rations was revealed with respect to the main food substances, trace elements and vitamins. The experiment comprised soil, herbage, and 3 groups of cattle from Cu deficient regions. Samples of blood, rumen contents, hair, urine and feces, while after slaughter, samples of the liver, kidney, brain, skeletal muscles and long bones were taken from animals under study. Low contents of copper, molybdenum, ceruloplasmin and lipid peroxides, approximately normal contents of zinc, iron, calcium, phosphorus, vitamin E and ascorbic acid, and increased concentration of sulphur were demonstrated. The highest activity of superoxide dismutase was found in the youngest animals.

We investigated the effect of two dosing regimens of oral iron on iron status and hematological parameters in patients with CKD. In this single center, open label, randomized, active controlled clinical trial, stable adult patients with CKD stage G3-4 with percentage transferrin saturation (%TSAT) ≤ 30% and serum ferritin ≤ 500 ng/ml were eligible. Scurvy, lack of vitamin C, is a rare disease and is often called seafarers' disease. This case story describes a 36 year-old female patient with scurvy after a gastric bypass operation. Scurvy led to severed bullae on the skin, haemorrhagia and loose skin. After intensive care treatment and a minor split skin graft the patient was discharged from the university hospital to a local hospital for further mobilization. Three months later the patient died due to sepsis.
