The politics and science behind GMO acceptance.

The question of nutritional quality has arisen in the International Community over the last few years along with other important issues such as population aging, multipopulation societies, and political conflicts. The nutritional issue is questioned both quantitatively and qualitatively. It is well known that the planet faces enormous problems with food that is available. Nowadays 20% of the population consumes approximately 80% of the produced energy and natural resources. During the last 15 years, a series of food scares and crises (BSE, dioxin, foot and mouth disease, bird flu) have serious

Human-wildlife conflict and its impacts on livelihoods, health, and the environment in Chebera Churchura National Park, Southwest Ethiopia: a phenomenological study using a One Health approach with an urgent call for action.

BACKGROUND: Chebera Churchura National Park (CCNP), located in Southwest Ethiopia, was established to conserve biodiversity. However, its contribution to the livelihood and wellbeing of the proximal communities remains limited. Local people derive few tangible benefits from conservation while facing significant costs through crop losses, livestock predation, and restricted access to natural resources factors that intensify human-wildlife conflict (HWC). Previous studies have addressed HWCs focused mainly from ecological and socio-economic aspects with limited attention to the linkage between h

Advancing Equity in Breast Cancer Care Through Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement.

Disparities in breast cancer care access and outcomes are persistent and globally recognized issues driven by a complex interplay of socioeconomic, geographical, and systemic factors. Given the complex psychosocial effects on this patient group, it is crucial to incorporate Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) into care models. PPIE is a collaborative approach that involves patients, caregivers, and community members. It engages diverse populations and addresses the needs of underrepresented and disadvantaged groups, thereby promoting health equity. However, the multifaceted co

Assessing technical aspects and vulnerabilities from Tswaing informal settlement in Hammanskraal, South Africa.

UNLABELLED: The increasing frequency of hazards such as floods, droughts, socio-political unrest, emerging diseases and rising temperatures has affected South Africa. In line with the Sendai Framework Principles (2015-2030), which anticipate that these hazards can deplete local resources and lead to disaster declarations, this empirical study investigated community vulnerabilities in Tswaing informal settlement during South Africa's dry winter season. Researchers collaborated with community leaders and officials from the City of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality to gain access to the study are

Community-based approaches to infant safe sleep and breastfeeding promotion: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: In the U.S., sudden unexpected infant deaths (SUID) due to accidental suffocation and strangulation in bed (ASSB) are increasing, with disparities by race/ethnicity. While breastfeeding is a protective factor against infant mortality, racial/ethnic disparities are present in its uptake, and motivations to breastfeed are also often coupled with non-recommended infant sleep practices that are associated with infant sleep deaths. Combining infant safe sleep (ISS) and breastfeeding promotion on the community level presents opportunities to address racial/ethnic disparities and associat

Community-based surveillance programs in Cameroon, Chad, Niger and the DRC: a comparative assessment of integration in humanitarian crisis contexts.

BACKGROUND: Increasing community involvement to anticipate and organize a rapid response to epidemics remains a major challenge. From 2022 to 2025, the French Red Cross, together with host national Red Cross Societies, supported the Ministries of Health in Cameroon, Chad, Niger and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in setting up community-based epidemiological surveillance (CBS). On the basis of prevention, early detection and notification of suspected cases, these programs mobilize community players trained in early warning. This article aims to contribute to the limited evidence on CBS
