Depression, anxiety, and stress across the perinatal period: longitudinal trends and associations with adverse outcomes : Article Type: Original Paper.

BACKGROUND: Depression, anxiety, and stress are common during the perinatal period and may adversely affect maternal and neonatal outcomes. However, longitudinal data on their trajectories across pregnancy and the postpartum period, as well as their associations with adverse outcomes, remain limited. AIM: To assess the prevalence and longitudinal trends of depression, anxiety, and stress from the first trimester through three months postpartum and to examine their associations with adverse perinatal outcomes, along with sociodemographic and obstetric factors. METHODS: This prospective cohort s

[Pre-, peri- and postpartal depression].

INTRODUCTION: Postpartal affective disorders are with a prevalence between 8 % and 15 % highly frequent maternal diseases after childbirth. An undetected and untreated postpartum depression causes a wide range of negative consequences such as risk of a chronic manifestation of a major depression, social retreat, limitations in the bonding behavior, and behavioral disorders of the child. Therefore, an early detection of pregnant women at risk is warranted. METHODS: Within a prospective study (FRAMES: Franconian Maternal Health Evaluation Studies), 1,100 pregnant women were interviewed with sta

The influence of subjective social status on vulnerability to postpartum smoking among young pregnant women.

OBJECTIVES: Associations between subjective social status, a subjective measure of socioeconomic status, and predictors of risk for postpartum smoking were examined among 123 pregnant women (aged 18-24 years) who stopped smoking because of pregnancy. The goal was to identify how subjective social status might influence the risk for postpartum smoking and to elucidate targets for intervention. METHODS: We used multiple regression equations to examine the predictive relations between subjective social status and tobacco dependence, self-rated likelihood of postpartum smoking, confidence, tempta

Perinatal depressive symptoms and subsequent fertility intention: a multicenter cohort study in Japan.

Declining fertility rates represent a critical demographic challenge worldwide. While socioeconomic determinants of reproductive decision-making have been studied, the influence of maternal mental health on subsequent fertility intention remains unclear. In this multicenter prospective cohort study in Japan, 689 pregnant women were followed up to one month postpartum to examine whether postpartum depressive symptoms were associated with subsequent fertility intention, after adjustment for prespecified covariates (maternal age, partner age, parity, and maternal individual income). The Edinburgh

Robotic management of a duplicated ureter during intracoporeal urinary diversion following robotic cystectomy.

OBJECTIVE: Postpartum has been considered as a period of risk for developing postpartum depression (PD) by some but not all authors, and this PD has been linked with postpartum thyroid dysfunction (PPTD). The major aim of this study was to evaluate the relation between the presence of PPTD and PD. DESIGN AND PATIENTS: Six hundred and forty-one healthy Caucasian women recruited between their 36th week of pregnancy and fourth day postpartum underwent clinical and laboratory evaluation and were checked again at 1 (n = 605), 3 (n = 552), 6 (n = 574), 9 (n = 431), and 12 (n = 444) months postpartu

Prenatal depression with comorbid diabetes or hypertension and the risk of adverse postnatal maternal health outcomes: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Depression and physical conditions such as gestational diabetes and hypertension frequently co-occur during pregnancy. However, the combined effect of these conditions on postnatal maternal health outcomes remains unclear. This study systematically summarises evidence on the impact of prenatal depression comorbid with gestational diabetes and/or hypertension on adverse postnatal maternal health outcomes. METHODS: A systematic review was conducted across PubMed, Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, PsycINFO, and Google Scholar to identify relevant studies. The study protocol

Depression during pregnancy and the puerperium.

Epidemiologic studies demonstrate a twofold higher rate of depression in women than in men. The childbearing years are a time of increased risk for onset of depression in women. Pregnancy, miscarriage or pregnancy loss, infertility, and the postpartum period may challenge a woman's mental health. Virtually no life event rivals the neuroendocrine and psychosocial changes associated with pregnancy and childbirth. This paper provides a brief overview of depression during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Incidence, risk factors, and complications of depression during pregnancy and the puerperi

Changes in women's mental and physical health from pregnancy through six months postpartum.

A longitudinal study was conducted to investigate changes in women's mental and physical health around the time of childbirth, and to determine whether health was related to length of maternity leave. Thirty-seven married, employed first-time mothers completed questionnaires during pregnancy, and again at 6 weeks, 3 months, and 6 months postpartum. Results showed that, from pregnancy to the 6th postpartum month, the number of days that mothers were ill because of infections steadily increased. In addition, depressive symptoms for new mothers rose from pregnancy to the 6th week postpartum, and

Exploring the Immigrant Paradox: Nativity, Ethnicity, and Postpartum Mental Health Among Latinas in Central Texas.

BACKGROUND: Mental health conditions are a leading cause of maternal mortality. Within Latina ethnicity, being foreign-born has been associated with better health outcomes than being US born, but the relevance of this immigrant paradox to perinatal mental health remains underexplored. This study investigates whether ethnicity (Latina/non-Latina) and nativity (foreign vs. US born) are associated with differences in postpartum depression and anxiety within a sample of women in Central Texas. METHODS: We conducted a secondary analysis of a prospective observational cohort (n = 76). Participants

Management of bipolar II disorder during pregnancy and the postpartum period--Motherisk Update 2008.

The spectrum of bipolar disorder (BPD) includes BP I, BP II, and BP not otherwise specified(NOS). The latter two conditions are thought to have a combined lifetime prevalence of 3.5%compared to a prevalence rate of 1.0% for BP I.Despite the combined high prevalence of BP II and BP NOS, surprisingly little is known about the course and treatment of these disorders during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Brief hypomanic symptoms occur in the early puerperium in as many as 15% of women, and there is preliminary evidence that postpartum depression in some patients may be related to BP II or BP
