BACKGROUND: Surgical procedures in the field are occasionally required as life-saving measures. Few centers have a planned infrastructure for field physician support. Focused efforts are needed to create teams that can meet such needs. Additionally, certain legal issues surrounding these efforts should be considered. BACKGROUND: This retrospective cohort study aimed to evaluate the safety of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) in patients with blunt thoracic trauma, with particular focus on crush injuries sustained during the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes.

BACKGROUND: Crush syndrome (CS) is a systemic condition resulting from rhabdomyolysis caused by prolonged pressure on muscle tissue. It is estimated that CS will develop in approximately 2-5% of all injuries related to an earthquake, and acute kidney injury (AKI) will develop in approximately 1.5% of all injuries.
