Profound intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) has devastating effects on neonates, leading to significant neurodevelopmental morbidity. Among different types of lasers, the erbium laser exhibits particularly favourable characteristics for ear surgery. Endoscopic ultrasonography was done in 12 normal adult dogs to investigate its efficacy in visualization of the pancreas. The endoscopic ultrasonographic device used in the present study had a curved-array ultrasound transducer mounted in front of the objective lens. We present the case of a male patient with sero-negative rheumatoid arthritis, treated with gold salts, admitted for clinical symptoms and chest X-ray alterations suggesting an interstitial lung disease. The feasibility of percutaneous transluminal cardioscopy of the left ventricle was examined in 35 patients with or without various heart diseases. The endoscopic methods including retrograde pancreaticocholangiography were used for examining 78 patients, 14 of them were subjected to resection of the pancreas and 14 to pancreatojejunostomy. Gastroduodenitis was diagnosed in all the patients after resection of the pancreas, in 3 patients repeated surgical interventions (pancreatojejunostomy) were necessary. The examination of patients with pancreatojejunal anastomos has shown that scarring is more frequently found in terminolateral anastomoses while longitudinal pancreatojejunostomy is followed by good patency of the anastomosis.

On a total of 934 fibreoptic oesophagogastroduodenoscopies, performed between September, 1978 and September 1981, 122 patients presented with symptoms of upper gastrointestinal bleeding of less than two weeks duration. Sixty consecutive patients with gastric ulcer were studied at random after treatment with 100 mg pepstatin or 100 mg placebo seven times a day at fixed hours and controlled 2, 4, 8, and 12 weeks after initial diagnosis. Examinations comprised clinical symptoms and endoscopic evaluation of ulcer healing. Eight patients were withdrawn from the study. Ulcer healing and symptoms were better with placebo than with pepstatin, but a type-2 error of a 10% effect in favour of pepstatin may be overlooked. In gastric ulcer treatment, pepstatin seems to be of only fringe benefit, if of any benefit at all.

Fiberoptic colonoscopy was performed on 15 patients between the ages of 1 1/2 years and 16 years. Ten patients were hospitalized and five were outpatients.
