Forty-two cases of tumors of the skin and of the soft tissues immediately beneath the skin, presumably induced by ionizing radiotherapy, are reported: 35 were carcinomas, 2 angiosarcomas, 2 leiomyosarcomas of the dermis and 3 fibrosarcomas. In 31 of the 35 cases of carcinomas, multiple neoplastic foci were found in the skin area exposed to the ionizing radiation. The biological effectiveness of carbon ions relative to gamma rays (RBE) was compared between the tumor growth delay and an early skin reaction of syngeneic mice. The RBE was larger for a tumor than skin when irradiated with large doses of high-LET (linear energy transfer) carbon ions. The present study was designed to assess the effect of chronic liver dysfunction on the antineoplastic activity of fluoropyrimidines. Nuclear chromatin was separated into four fractions according to solubility in low (0.2 mM MgCl2, 10 mM Tris-HCl, pH 7.6) and high (2 M NaCl) ionic strengths after digestion of nuclear DNA with nucleases. We report the case of a 56-year old male patient with pulmonary, abdominal and pelvic metastases from a dermatofibrosarcoma (DFS) which had developed 23 years previously in the right scapulo-humeral region and had recurred twice after the first excision, in 1983. Surgery was only performed once. The most remarkable feature of the disease was the progressive transformation, with each recurrence, of a typical DFS into a poorly differentiated and highly malignant tumour, about as active as a fibrosarcoma. Irradiating the plasmid pSV2-gpt with UV (254 nm) doses up to 200 J m-2 caused a dose-dependent increase in the yield of Gpt+ transformants when the plasmid was introduced into human cells by calcium phosphate coprecipitation. UV doses greater than 1 kJ m-2 were required to reduce the efficiency of transformation below that obtained with unirradiated DNA.

A group of 21 adults patients with soft tissues sarcomas of the extremities were studied by CT. CT was a diagnostic procedure in only one case. However it has always permitted a precise local work-up particularly in demonstrating the vasculo-nervous connections of the lesions. The place of CT with regard to the other radiological procedures is discussed. by its contribution to the locoregional and general pretherapeutic work-up and to a better determination of radiotherapeutical dosimetry, CT appears to have an up standing place in the staging and the follow-up of soft tissues sarcomas.

An arteriovenous fistula between the systemic and pulmonary circulations may be congenital, as in bronchopulmonary sequestration, or the communication may be acquired. Inflammatory disease, trauma, and, rarely, neoplasm have been implicated as possible causes of acquired communications. We describe a patient who had a systemic artery-to-pulmonary vein fistula that was secondary to a recurrent sarcoma of the chest wall. Review of the literature failed to reveal a previous report of a similar case.

OBJECTIVES: Low-grade fibromyxoid sarcoma (LGFMS) is a rare tumor often arising in the lower extremities. Only rare examples in the abdominal cavity, pelvis, and retroperitoneum have been reported.
METHODS: cases of abdominopelvic and retroperitoneal LGFMS were retrieved. MUC4, Actin, ALK, β-catenin, desmin, DOG1, KIT, S100 protein, and STAT6 testing was performed, and a subset was tested for FUS rearrangement.
