Precision Gerontometry: Introduction, Fundamentals and Areas of Application.

Aging is a major risk factor for numerous chronic diseases and a leading contributor to global mortality. Slowing the rate of aging would have revolutionary implications for health and longevity. A fundamental barrier to achieving this goal, however, is the difficulty of accurately measuring the effects of rejuvenating interventions. The development of precise gerontometric methods, therefore, is a priority for both science and preventive medicine. In this opinion article, the authors suggest the principles and discuss the implementation of precision gerontometry using recent advances in metab

Putting communities at the centre for a more effective and equitable health system in Aotearoa New Zealand.

Community-led action is essential for building a more effective and equitable health system. Yet Aotearoa New Zealand's history of top-down structural reforms has undermined progress toward "healthy futures for all". We draw on complexity science and system-change principles to explain why genuine devolution and community engagement are not just ideological preferences but practical necessities in a complex health system. Community agency and locally tailored innovation can drive emergent, system-wide improvements, but only if central structures enable and sustain these relationships. A key st

Toward a multi-level approach to the study of the intergenerational transmission of trauma: Current findings and future directions.

A central goal in the field of developmental psychopathology is to evaluate the complex, dynamic transactions occurring among biological, psychological, and broader social-cultural contexts that predict adaptive and maladaptive outcomes across ontogeny. Here, I briefly review research on the effects of a history of childhood maltreatment on parental, child, and dyadic functioning, along with more recent studies on the intergenerational transmission of trauma. Because the experience and sequelae of child maltreatment and the intergenerational transmission of trauma are embedded in complex biops

The Potential of OMICs Technologies for the Treatment of Immune-Mediated Inflammatory Diseases.

Immune-mediated inflammatory diseases (IMIDs), such as inflammatory bowel diseases and inflammatory arthritis (e.g., rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis), are marked by increasing worldwide incidence rates. Apart from irreversible damage of the affected tissue, the systemic nature of these diseases heightens the incidence of cardiovascular insults and colitis-associated neoplasia. Only 40-60% of patients respond to currently used standard-of-care immunotherapies. In addition to this limited long-term effectiveness, all current therapies have to be given on a lifelong basis as they are un
