OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the perineal rectosigmoidectomy(Altemeier procedure) in the emergent management of acute incarcerated rectal prolapse.
METHODS: Clinical and follow-up data of 9 patients with acute incarcerated rectal prolapse undergone Altemeier procedure were retrospectively analyzed.
RESULTS: The mean operation time was 1.7 (range 1.0-1.5) hours. The mean total blood loss during surgery was 109 (50-200) ml. The mean time to the first bowel movements was 2.8(1-6) days after surgery. The hospital stay was 5.3(3-10) days. There were no postoperative complications such as anastomotic le

The dermoid cyst was diagnosed based on MRI findings and confirmed histopathologically. Reduction of a large rectal prolapse may be difficult because of significant edema that collects in the rectal tissues. If reduction is unsuccessful, an emergent laparotomy and internal reduction is required. A wide elastic wrap applied around the prolapsed rectum provides progressive compression, which reduces the amount of edema, allowing subsequent manual reduction. Hernias can lead to significant morbidity in patients on peritoneal dialysis (PD). We studied the natural history and outcome of incarcerated hernia (IH), with or without bowel strangulation (IHS), in PD patients. We performed a retrospective chart review on all PD patients who developed an IH (n = 11) or an IHS (7/11) in the last 12 years. Of the 11 patients, 54% were female. Using data from a Bureau of Justice Statistics' national prison inmate survey, this paper analyzes alcohol and drug use and abuse patterns among men incarcerated in state prison for sex crimes. In this retrospective study of incarcerated adolescents, inhalants were used by significantly more nonminority than minority youth. PURPOSE: To determine the HIV-related risk behaviors and STDs in a population of incarcerated adolescents in order to strategically target education and prevention efforts.
METHODS: A single point-in-time prevalence study based on an analysis of intake medical records of 1,215 incarcerated youth were analyzed for HIV risk behaviors and STD history.

Strangulation of the stones of the great duodenal papilla is found in almost every fourth patient with a benigh mechanical jaundice. A radical method for removing the stones from the ampulla of the papilla is the transduodenal papillosphincterotomy. The 1-1,5 cm dissection of the papilla is followed by an external drainage of the hepatocholedochus after Holstead or Carr.
