Comparison of Wavefront-Optimized Ablation and Topography-Guided Contoura Ablation With LYRA Protocol in LASIK.

PURPOSE: To compare the refractive outcomes and aberration data analysis of wavefront-optimized (WFO) ablation and topography-guided Contoura ablation (TGCA) (Contoura on the WaveLight laser; WaveLight GmbH, Erlangen, Germany) in patients who had laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) for myopia or myopic astigmatism. METHODS: In this comparative contralateral eye study, patients who underwent LASIK with TGCA in one eye and with WFO ablation in the fellow eye were analyzed. Aberration measurements and corneal topography were analyzed using the WaveLight Oculyzer II diagnostic device (A

Cap-preserving SMILE Enhancement Surgery.

BACKGROUND: Different enhancement procedures have been suggested for reduction of residual refractive errors after SMILE. The aim of this study is to evaluate an improved cap-preserving technique for enhancement after SMILE (Re-SMILE). METHODS: A retrospective case series was conducted at Eye subspecialty center, Cairo, Egypt on 9 eyes with myopia or myopic astigmatism (spherical equivalent - 8.0 and - 12.0D). undergoing SMILE procedure and needed second interference. This was either because the more myopic meridian was more than - 10.0 D and therefore planned to have two-steps procedure (six

Laser Vision Correction with Q Factor Modification for Keratoconus Management.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the outcomes of corneal laser ablation with Q factor modification for vision correction in patients with progressive keratoconus. METHODS: In this prospective study, 50 eyes of 50 patients were divided into two groups based on Q factor (>-1 in Group I and ≤-1 in Group II). All patients underwent a detailed ophthalmic examination including uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), subjective acceptance and corneal topography using the Pentacam. The topolyzer was used to measure the corneal asphericity (Q). Ablation was performed ba

METHODS: Forty-four eyes of 22 consecutive patients who underwent SMILE with an energy level of 140 nJ (spot distance 3.0 µm) in one eye, and with an energy level of 170 nJ (spot distance 4.5 µm) in the other eye, the eyes being randomly assigned. Preoperatively, 1 week, and 1 and 3 months postoperatively, the values of the modulation transfer function (MTF) cutoff frequency, Strehl ratio, objective scattering index (OSI) a

PURPOSE: To compare visual outcome, higher-order aberrations, and corneal asphericity (Q value) between wavefront-guided and aspheric LASIK for myopia and myopic astigmatism. METHODS: Forty patients were randomly selected to receive wavefront-guided LASIK (wavefront-guided group) or aspheric LASIK (aspheric group) (40 eyes of 20 patients in each group) using the Technolas 217z excimer laser platform (Bausch & Lomb, Rochester, NY). Flaps were created using the Zyoptix XP microkeratome (Bausch & Lomb). Preoperative and postoperative evaluation included uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA),

PURPOSE: To analyze the induced corneal higher order aberrations (HOAs) after wavefront-optimized ablation. METHODS: Sixty-four myopic eyes that underwent wavefront-optimized myopic LASIK were divided into three groups based on spherical equivalent (SE): low myopia group (23 eyes with SE <-3.00 diopters [D]); moderate myopia group (27 eyes with SE between -3.00 and -6.00 D); and high myopia group (14 eyes with SE >-6.00 D). Total corneal HOA, corneal spherical aberrations, corneal coma through a 6-mm pupil size, and corneal eccentricity were measured with a dual Scheimpflug imaging device pre

The Increase in Corneal Stiffness After Accelerated Corneal Cross-Linking in Progressive Keratoconus Using Different Methods of Epithelial Debridement.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to investigate corneal stiffening after epithelium-off accelerated corneal cross-linking (CXL; 9 mW/cm²) in progressive keratoconus (KC) with different methods of epithelial debridement. METHODS: This was a retrospective, interventional, and non-randomized study. In group 1, the epithelium was removed using a hockey knife (N = 45). In group 2 (N = 39) and group 3 (N = 22), the epithelial thickness was measured by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and the epithelium was ablated by excimer laser, but, in group 3, stromal ablation was performed additionall

Comparison of Predictability in Central Corneal Thickness Reduction After SMILE and FS-LASIK for High Myopia Correction.

INTRODUCTION: To compare central corneal thickness (CCT) reduction after small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (FS-LASIK) in eyes with high myopia. METHODS: In this prospective, consecutive study, 70 eyes with high myopia undergoing SMILE (n = 35) or FS-LASIK (n = 35) were recruited. Corneal topography images were acquired using the Pentacam HR imaging system preoperatively and at 1 day, 1 month, and 6 months postoperatively. Effect of Myopic Femtosecond Laser-Assisted LASIK on Anterior Chamber Inflammation (Flare Values) and Corneal Endothelium: A Prospective before and after Study.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to investigate whether femtosecond laser-assisted LASIK (FS-LASIK) surgery causes inflammation in the anterior chamber and to analyze its effect on endothelial cells. METHODS: This prospective, longitudinal study included left eyes of 30 patients (19 females) who had undergone FS-LASIK surgery due to myopia and myopic astigmatism. Endothelial cell density (ECD) and morphological measurements were performed using a specular microscopy, and laser flare photometry was used to measure the anterior chamber flare values on the day of surgery. iFS™ Advanced FS and VISX STAR

Midterm results of laser generated in situ fenestration of the left subclavian artery during thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair.

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the midterm result of in situ fenestration (ISF) of the left subclavian artery (LSA) during thoracic endovascular aneurysm repair (TEVAR). METHODS: In this clinical study, between 2014 and 2016, ISF for LSA revascularization was attempted during TEVAR in 10 patients (7 males; median age, 68 years). An excimer laser, placed from the left brachial artery, was used to create a fenestration and all fenestrations were stented with covered stent grafts. Follow-up included computed tomography scans 1 month postoperatively and annually thereafter. Survival was analyzed according

Reversible femtosecond laser-assisted myopia correction: a non-human primate study of lenticule re-implantation after refractive lenticule extraction.

LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) is a common laser refractive procedure for myopia and astigmatism, involving permanent removal of anterior corneal stromal tissue by excimer ablation beneath a hinged flap. Correction of refractive error is achieved by the resulting change in the curvature of the cornea and is limited by central corneal thickness, as a thin residual stromal bed may result in biomechanical instability of the cornea. A recently developed alternative to LASIK called Refractive Lenticule Extraction (ReLEx) utilizes solely a femtosecond laser (FSL) to incise an intrastr

Femtosecond thin-flap LASIK for the correction of ametropia after penetrating keratoplasty.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the outcomes of LASIK with thin femtosecond laser flaps for the treatment of refractive errors after penetrating keratoplasty (PK). METHODS: Eleven consecutive eyes underwent femtosecond thin-flap LASIK 51.6+/-42.1 months (range: 13 to 156 months) after the initial PK. A full ophthalmic assessment was performed before femtosecond LASIK and 6 months after surgery. Postoperative retreatments were also noted.
