Clinical factors affecting the efficacy of melasma treatment using the Q-switched 1064 Nd: YAG laser mode in a group of Venezuelan female patients.

The influence of melasma risk factors on the effectiveness of laser toning treatment in Venezuelan females was investigated. Clinical evaluation was performed (n = 64) including ultrasound and thyroid hormone profile. All patients underwent face exposure with laser toning, eight sessions weekly. VISIA percentiles corresponding to dark brown spots determined before and after treatment were compared by ANOVA. Differences between percentile values before and after treatment for each patient were calculated and expressed as percentages. An improvement of ≥30% was considered as significant. Spearma

Epidermal grafting for leukoderma resulting from 1064-nm quality-switched neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet laser toning.

Leukoderma secondary to Q-switched 1064-nm neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet laser is usually refractory to treatment. The pathogenesis was cumulative phototoxic damage to melanocytes and eventually resulted in melanocytopenia. Wood's light or UV imaging can help observe early leukoderma before it becomes apparent clinically and determine the degree of melanocytopenia before conducting a biopsy. NB-UVB phototherapy and 308-nm excimer laser can potentially worsen the pre-existing melasma lesions and may not be effective if the lesions have already become melanocytopenic. Epidermal grafti

Light emitting diode (LED) therapy reduces local pathological changes induced by Bothrops asper snake venom.

The therapeutic effect of the Light Emitting Diode (LED) treatment in two wavelengths (635 or 945 nm) was evaluated in the local pathological alterations induced by Bothrops asper snake venom. Mice received irradiation of infrared LED (120 mW, 945 nm) or red LED (110 mW, 635 nm) applied immediately, 1 and 2 h after venom injection. LED treatment reduced edema formation in the plantar region and gastrocnemius muscle and significantly reduced neutrophil migration and hyperalgesia after the venom injection. Also, both infrared LED and red LED treatment significantly reduced myonecrosis, as reveal

Photobiomodulation promotes adenoviral gene transduction in auditory cells.

Gene therapy is the delivery of a therapeutic gene into target cells to treat disorders by replacing disease-causing mutated genes with healthy ones. Gene therapy of the inner ear has been recently described, with applications for sensorineural hearing loss. However, gene delivery to the location of the inner ear, and thus efficacy of therapy, is challenging. Photobiomodulation (PBM) with a low-level laser has been suggested to have a therapeutic effect and has the potential to augment gene therapy. To investigate whether PBM improves the rate of adenovirus (Ad)-mediated viral delivery, we com
