BACKGROUND: Post-prandial and oral glucose tolerance test-related hypoglycemia is common in cystic fibrosis (CF); however, the underlying mechanisms are unclear.
METHODS: To understand the relationship of hypoglycemia with meal-related glucose excursion and insulin secretion, we analyzed plasma glucose, insulin, C-peptide, glucagon and incretins obtained during standardized mixed-meal tolerance tests (MMTT) in non-diabetic adolescents and young adults with pancreatic insufficient CF (PI-CF).
RESULTS: Hypoglycemia, defined as glucose <70 mg/dL, occurred in 9/34 subjects at 150 (range:120-210)

BACKGROUND: Hepatocyte nuclear factor-1 beta (HNF-1beta) is a widely distributed transcription factor which plays a critical role in embryonic development of the kidney, pancreas, liver, and Mullerian duct. Thirty HNF-1beta mutations have been reported in patients with renal cysts and other renal developmental disorders, young-onset diabetes, pancreatic atrophy, abnormal liver function tests, and genital tract abnormalities.

Although IAPP was first discovered and isolated from amyloid deposits in an endocrine pancreatic tumour (EPT), surprisingly few reports have investigated the potential use of IAPP as a marker for neuroendocrine tumour growth. The effects of long-term cranberry consumption on age-related changes in endocrine pancreas are not fully understood. Here we treated male Fischer 344 rats with either 2% whole cranberry powder supplemented or normal rodent chow from 6 to 22 month old.
