PURPOSE: To compare visual acuity outcomes and diabetic retinopathy progression after pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) versus combined pars plana vitrectomy and phacoemulsification (PPVCE) in patients with diabetes.

The prognosis of 11,778 mitochondrial mutations in Leber hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) is poor. Patients with favorable outcomes (visual acuity better than 20/100) who could be observed for more than 6 months were analyzed. We report a patient with ocular abnormalities due to Alport syndrome. Considerable improvement of visual acuity was obtained following ocular lens extraction with foldable lens implantation in the right eye to compensate the effect of the lenticonus anterior. We report the results of limbal lensectomy for ectopia lentis in 50 eyes of 30 children over a period of 7 years. The reasons for surgery were poor visual acuity in 47 eyes and dislocation of the lens into the anterior chamber in three.
