HHV 6-7 reactivation causing Pityriasis Rosea and labyrinthitis: A case report.

Pityriasis Rosea (PR) and labyrinthitis are most commonly caused by viral infections. PR presents with a characteristic rash while labyrinthitis presents with vertigo, tinnitus and hearing loss. However, the coexistence of PR and Labyrinthitis remains an uncommon event. Human Herpes Virus (HHV) 6 and 7, are common infections in childhood, and their reactivation causes Pityriasis Rosea. But these viruses are not known to have any involvement with the inner ear or the 8th cranial nerve (CN).

Adult pityriasis lichenoides-like mycosis fungoides: a clinical variant of mycosis fungoides.

BACKGROUND: Mycosis fungoides (MF) is the most frequent type of cutaneous T cell lymphoma. Its clinicopathological spectrum is wide, and the resulting diversity makes it difficult to establish a differential diagnosis among pityriasis lichenoides (PL), lymphomatoid papulosis (LyP), and atypical MF. OBJECTIVES: This study describes four patients with longstanding PL-like lesions, in whom clinicopathological correlations contributed towards the establishment of definitive diagnoses of MF. METHODS: The clinical histories of the four patients were reviewed. Skin biopsies were processed by hemato…

Skin Characteristics in Patients with Pityriasis Versicolor Using Non-Invasive Method, MPA5.

BACKGROUND: Skin pigmentary changes of pityriasis versicolor may occur as either hyperpigmented or hypopigmented lesions, depending on the outcome of interactions between Malassezia yeasts and the skin, such as lipoperoxidation process, stimulus of inflammatory cell to melanocytes, and increased thickness of keratin layer. OBJECTIVE: To investigate skin characteristic factors that enhance the susceptibility to Malassezia yeasts and provoke different color changes of pityriasis versicolor patients. METHODS: To clarify these factors, we investigated the skin characteristics of pityriasis versi…

Pityriasis rubra pilaris presenting with an abnormal autoimmune profile: two case reports.

INTRODUCTION: Pityriasis rubra pilaris is an uncommon inflammatory and hyperproliferative dermatosis of juvenile or adult onset. The etiology of the disease is still unknown. Itraconazole in pityriasis versicolor: ultrastructural changes in Malassezia furfur produced during treatment.

Twenty-eight patients with pityriasis versicolor were treated orally with 200 mg of itraconazole per day in an open, randomized comparison of five-day and seven-day treatment regimens. The morphologic changes in Malassezia furfur produced by treatment were confirmed by studies with transmission and scanning electron microscopy. The clinical results showed that seven days of treatment were more effective than five days. Transmission electron microscopy revealed cytopathic changes in the fungus at the end of treatment, intracellular necrosis being complete within seven to 28 days. Cell-surface a…

Tofacitinib: A Promising Therapeutic Option for Refractory Pityriasis Rubra Pilaris-A Case Report.

Pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) is a rare inflammatory skin disorder that can severely impact the quality of life in patients, particularly when presenting in chronic or refractory form. Emerging evidence suggests that JAK inhibitors may offer a potential treatment option. Here, we present a case of refractory PRP successfully treated with tofacitinib.

Resolution of Pityriasis rubra pilaris induced ectropion with oral dexamethasone. A case report.

An 82-year-old male presented with generalised Pityriasis rubra pilaris (PRP) managed initially by dermatology team. The patient did not respond to first- and second-line treatment, including oral acitretin, steroid creams, and methotrexate, and developed bilateral cicatricial ectropion, for which he was referred to oculoplastic team for surgical management. A head injury resulting in subacute subdural haematoma, managed with a week course of low dose oral dexamethasone, resulted in the improvement of his skin condition and complete resolution of the cicatricial ectropion within a few weeks. T…
