Motion planning of cleaning robot based on 3D vision.

Aiming to address the current problems in the industrial cleaning field, including water waste, blind spots, and poor equipment compatibility, this study proposes a three-dimensional vision-based cleaning robot design. The proposed design is primarily developed for cleaning workpieces in the manufacturing of rail transit equipment. It integrates both high-flow, low-pressure cleaning and low-flow, high-pressure cleaning, using the proportional-integral-derivative (PID) control technology to precisely adjust the cleaning pressure and water temperature, allowing robots to automatically adapt to t

Miniature deep-sea morphable robot with multimodal locomotion.

Research on miniature deep-sea robots is an emerging field focused on the development of deployable, compact devices capable of interacting with the unique environments and organisms of the deep ocean. In this study, we present a design strategy for a centimeter-scale deep-sea soft actuator, weighing 16 grams, that incorporates bistable chiral metamaterials and tube-sealed shape memory alloys. According to our design, the increased modulus induced by the hydrostatic pressure was used to achieve a higher snapping velocity of the bistable chiral unit, thus lifting the actuator's performance. We

Evaluation of Targeted Robotic Balance Training in Chronic TBI.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) impairs sensorimotor functions, which affect static, dynamic, and reactive balance even in chronic stages. Varying levels of deficits in people with TBI (pwTBI) due to heterogeneous injury pose challenges on therapies. Since qualitative assessment-based conventional therapies are multifactorial, they may not precisely evaluate deficits or provide targeted therapy. However, robotic devices can precisely evaluate deficits and offer customized therapy progression based on deficits. Therefore, the study objective was to investigate the efficacy of a targeted robotic ba

Robotic endoscopic cardiac surgery in the reoperative patient: Is it feasible?

OBJECTIVE: Robotic cardiac surgery is increasingly adopted in the United States but remains a relative contraindication in reoperative settings for many programs. We hypothesize that in experienced hands, robotic approaches offer significant advantages in redo cardiac surgery by avoiding graft and cardiac injury during sternal reentry. We present our single-center experience with robotic redo endoscopic cardiac surgery, including midterm outcomes up to 10 years. METHODS: A retrospective review of 1834 robotic cardiac surgeries from 2013 to 2024 was performed. Of these, 105 patients (6%) with

Current Role of Robotic Inguinal Lymphadenectomy in Penile Cancer.

Lymph node (LN) metastases are the most significant prognostic factor in penile cancer (PeC), so timely detection and adequate treatment of LN metastases is crucial. While open inguinal LN dissection (ILND) remains the standard for most cases, its morbidity has spurred interest in robot-assisted videoendoscopic ILND (RA-VEIL). We summarize current international guidelines and evidence on the current role of RA-VEIL in LN management for PeC. RA-VEIL is feasible and has been associated with fewer wound complications and an equivalent nodal yield in comparison to open ILND. However, lymphatic com

Robotic surgery for urinary fistulae in females: a narrative review.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Fistulae are anomalous communications between two epithelial surfaces. Though with a rare incidence, they impose significant burdens on affected women. Fistulae were initially described in 200 A.D., but management has evolved surgically to include more minimally invasive approaches. Minimally invasive techniques have notably decreased morbidity rates for surgical approaches in the past decades. Robotic surgery was born from the desire to overcome laparoscopy limitations while retaining its advantages. When available, robotic surgery provides surgeons with enhanced dex

A Body-Powered Wrist-Driven Supernumerary Robotic Finger.

Individuals with grasping impairments face significant challenges in performing daily tasks due to reduced hand function. Existing supernumerary robotic fingers (SRFs) often rely on electronic components that limit their usability through added weight and power constraints. This work introduces the first body-powered wrist-driven SRF (bpSRF), a design that addresses these limitations by removing all electronic components. The proposed bpSRF weighs 52 g and is mostly made of 3D printed parts. Using body-powered actuation principles, the extra finger is driven by wrist movements, offering a prac

Robot-assisted cervical screw placement for atlantoaxial fixation.

Robotic navigation has primarily been used for instrumentation in the thoracic and lumbar spine. The cervical spine, on the other hand, is a less common site for robot-assisted screw placement. Furthermore, the anatomical complexity and presence of adjacent vascular structures in this region necessitates high placement accuracy. This operative video illustrates the placement of C1 lateral mass and C2 pars screws for a posterior C1-2 fusion using the ExcelsiusGPS surgical robot in a patient with spinal cord compression secondary to a retro-odontoid pannus.
