Squamous cell carcinoma of the small intestine is very rare. Only four cases have been reported so far. We report a case of primary squamous cell carcinoma arising in the small intestine and unusually causing strangulation of sigmoid colon in a 59-year-old female, the first case in India.

Capecitabine (Xeloda) is an oral 5-fluorouracil pro-drug used in the treatment of two of the commonest cancers: breast and colorectal. This report concerns a 43-year-old woman with metastatic cancer of the sigmoid colon who developed cardiac chest pain 5 days after starting capecitabine therapy. An 88-year-old man with unresectable sigmoid colon cancer due to retroperitoneal invasion and massive LN metastasis was treated with S-1 after colostomy. S-1 (80 mg/body/day) was administered for 2 weeks followed by a one week interval. Colonoscopy and abdominal CT revealed a partial response. After 5 courses, the patient underwent sigmoidectomy. S-1 was then administered for 15 courses. There was no side effect, and hospitalization was not required during the treatment. We report on a man with bulky leiomyosarcoma occupying the entire pelvic cavity that was treated by pelvic exenteration. A urinary reservoir was constructed using a detubularized segment of sigmoid colon. The appendix was tunneled into the taenia to form a continent catheterizable stoma using the Mitrofanoff principle. INTRODUCTION: We retrospectively evaluated the performance of preoperative computed tomographic (CT) colonography to detect tumor involvement of the rectosigmoid wall and predict the need for rectosigmoid resection in patients with primary ovarian cancer.
