A chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) with traumatic loss of the distal penis developed a gradually enlarging ventral urethral swelling and progressive dysuria. Endoscopy identified a urethral diverticulum, and endoscopic resection of the diverticulum wall was performed. Postoperative infection caused extensive necrosis of the penis, which necessitated a perineal urethrostomy. One hundred and forty three patients who had urethroplasty for urethral stricture between 1980 and 1989 were reviewed. Their age ranged from nine to 75 years with a mean of 39 +/- 10.2 SD years. Urethral strictures may present due to many causes. Obstructive urinary symptoms secondary to urethral malignancy is a rare presentation. Moreover, primary giant-cell tumor (GCT) arising in the urethra is an extremely unusual entity, which, to the best of our knowledge, has not been described till date; therefore, the clinical behavior is uncertain. We report a clinically unsuspected case of GCT of the urethra, who presented with urethral stricture.

We report a case of extensive traumatic membranous urethral obliteration with a 4-cm gap that was successfully treated with a transperineal-transurethral puncture technique to reestablish urethral continuity in association with endourethroplasty to repair the long fibrotic gap. The injury also involved the bladder neck, and the patient had subsequent stress urinary incontinence. The experiments on 15 dogs with preformed urethral stricture or urinary urethral fistula have demonstrated that microsurgical transplantation of the vascular fasciocutaneous pedicle flap provides good functional long-term results. The best effect was achieved in cases of intraflap inclusion of previously transplanted mucosa of the urinary bladder. In all 7 experiments x-ray picture was similar to normal. Recurrent strictures or urethral fistulas were not registered. Urodynamic indices late after the experiment did not differ significantly from normal values.
