JC virus (JCV) is a double-stranded DNA virus belonging to family Polyomaviridae. It causes progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), mainly in immunosuppressed people. JCV had been shown to require the serotonin 2A receptor for host cell entry. We report a case of clinical, neuroradiological and virological response of biopsy-proven PML in a 33-year-old comatose woman after treatment with the anti-psychotic drug risperidone. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this retrospective study was to delineate the histopathologic, immunohistochemical, and virologic characteristics of 18 cases of necrotizing ulcerative stomatitis.
STUDY DESIGN: Eighteen examples or oral ulcerations in human immunodeficiency virus-seropositive individuals were identified that displayed unique histopathologic features. Immunohistochemic staining for CD1a, CD3, CD23, CD68, HLA-DR, p24, cytomegalovirus, HSV-1, and HSV-2 was performed, along with in situ hybridization for Epstein-Barr virus RNA and special staining for bacteria and fungi.

An outbreak of equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) occurred on a large stud farm with 133 mares, 54 foals and four stallions, and at least 85 mares, 22 foals and three stallions were infected. 80 strains were isolated from patients with herpetic ocular infection during the period May 1979 to May 1981: 17 patients with herpetic blepharitis, 40 patients with superficial keratitis and 23 with deep stromal keratitis or kerato-uveitis.
