Hypertension or high blood pressure is constantly reported to be the main risk factors for ischaemic white matter lesions (WMLs). Motor representations of the face muscles and muscles of limbs were determined by means of intracortical microstimulation (ICMS) in 33 anaesthetized white mice. ICMS evoked mostly ipsilateral motor responses of facial muscles and contralateral motor responses of forelimb and hindlimb. Clear asymmetry of the face muscles's motor representation was found using low-threshold stimulation in left and right hemispheres. Hindlimb's motor responses to ICMS in rostral areas of frontal neocortex were observed and it indicates the presence of multiple motor representations in the mouse neocortex.

INTRODUCTION: Acquired elastolysis of the papillary dermis simulating pseudoxanthoma elasticum and white papulosis of the neck are two skin diseases with clearly limited borders. The two entities can be distinguished clinically when papulae converge into yellowish-white patches and histologically by complete absence of the elastic network in the papillary dermis without thickening of the collagen network in the superficial and mid dermis.

PURPOSE/METHOD: We examined a pregnant patient who had symptomatic white-centered retinal hemorrhages. Severe preeclampsia rapidly developed despite the patient not having hypertension, proteinuria, or edema at initial examination.
RESULTS/CONCLUSIONS: Retinal hemorrhages gradually resolved without treatment and visual acuity returned to 20/20 six months after emergency delivery of a healthy infant. Retinal or choroidal vascular abnormalities in pregnant patients may be caused by early preeclampsia and immediate obstetric referral is indicated.

We have evaluated height, weight, bone age, somatomedin-C levels, and pubertal development in 114 Sicilian patients affected by sickle cell diseases (SCDs). Thirty-one had homozygous sickle hemoglobin (SS), 55 S-beta 0 thalassemia, and 28 S-beta + thalassemia. In both children and adults, the mean height and weight were approximately 1 SD below the normal mean for age. The height was below the normal range only in a few subjects (8 children and 4 adult women). Some experience in surgical management of the Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome is generalized. Operations were performed on 7 patients (2 males and 5 females) whose ages ranged from 17 to 53 years. The sites, growth patterns, histological grades and degrees of invasion of urothelial tumors were assessed among white and Japanese patients in Hawaii. The gluten lectin was isolated by affinity chromatography, separated by sodium dodecyl sulphate-gel electrophoresis together with purified wheat germ agglutinin (WGA) and electrotransferred to nitrocellulose filters. In this report, the surgical experience with the treatment of Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome in 190 patients who had 210 Kent bundles has been summarized. The patients with reentry tachycardia caused by the Kent bundle were relieved by Kent division or by His division, the latter being used only in 10 percent of the patients.
