The polar bear (Ursus maritimus) is among the Arctic species exposed to the highest concentrations of long-range transported bioaccumulative contaminants, such as halogenated organic compounds and mercury. Fifty-two PBDE congeners in river sediments from Shanghai were analyzed in the present study. The concentrations of Σ51PBDEs (defined as the sum of 51 BDE congeners except BDE209) and BDE209 ranged from 0.231 to 119 ng g(-1) and from nd to 189 ng g(-1), respectively. Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) is the most widely used brominated flame retardant and a known thyroid disruptor. We reported exposing Xenopus tropicalis embryos (NF10) to 0.01, 0.1 or 1 mg/L of TBBPA with or without 70 microg/L triiodothyronine (T(3)). OBJECTIVE: To examine all methyl bromide poisonings reported to the Marseille Poison Centre and to describe more precisely the infrequent cases of chronic, nonacute exposure.
DESIGN: Retrospective observational cohort.
METHOD: Data retrieval from the French Poison Centres National Data Bank (ARIT) which contains all the cases of poisonings collected by the Marseille Poison Centre (Hot Line observations, Toxicovigilance, Toxicological intensive care unit).
