An unusual, well demarcated, and encapsulated neoplasm of the cauda equina is presented. At first, the tumor was considered to be a variant of myxopapillary ependymoma, but the reaction for glial fibrillary acidic protein was negative. At the ultrastructural level, the neoplastic cells contained many small dense core vesicles, and the diagnosis of paraganglioma was established. The literature and histogenesis of paraganglioma of the cauda equina is reviewed.

The wall of the common carotid artery of the domestic fowl possesses a baroreceptor zone around the origin of the artery to the carotid body. Schwannoma is usually a solitary, slowly progressing, benign tumour. It arises from the Schwann cells of peripheral, cranial and autonomic nerve sheaths and rarely affects the external female genitalia. We treated a patient in her late 30s with vulvar schwannoma with complete excision. A histological examination showed an encapsulated proliferation of bland spindle cells positive for S100 and SOX10 on immunohistochemistry, negative for desmin. A diagnosis of vulvar schwannoma was made. It carries a good prognosis with complete excision.

Adrenal ganglioneuromas in young adults are rare and ill-understood. We report an incidentally detected adrenal gland tumor diagnosed as ganglioneuroma (mature type) in 33 years old man who presented with vomiting and epigastric pain for 2 months. Histopathology examination revealed a well-encapsulated benign tumor of mature ganglion cells and Schwann-like cells arranged in fascicles, staining strongly with NSE and s-100 proteins, with adjacent unremarkable adrenal cortex and medulla.
