BACKGROUND: Neonatal clitoromegaly is usually attributed to androgen stimulation secondary to congenital adrenal hyperplasia or in utero androgen exposure. We present a unique case of transient, isolated neonatal clitoromegaly, associated with increased androgen levels of unidentifiable cause, which spontaneously resolved when the androgen levels normalized. BACKGROUND: A cloacal anomaly results from incomplete urorectal division and is frequently associated with genitourinary abnormalities. Experience of the urological reconstruction of this entity is reported.
METHODS: Nine girls with cloacal malformation have been treated at the Osaka Medical Center in the past 9 years. Seven patients were detected by prenatal ultrasonography as having: megacystis (two patients); hydronephrosis (two patients); or hydrometrocolpos (three patients). A case of hyperreactio luteinalis in a patient with normal singleton pregnancy is reported. The course of pregnancy had been normal until the 24th week of gestation, when the mother developed lower abdominal pain and signs of virilization.
