A 22-year-old woman with a newly detected chondroid liposarcoma located in the iliac muscle was diagnosed as having bilateral pulmonary embolism. Gadolinium-enhanced MRI further revealed a long distance thrombus reaching from the iliac vein to the right atrium. Nine patients with osteosarcoma were treated by chemotherapy combined with caffeine and surgery. UNLABELLED: Despite the success of chemotherapy in the treatment of hepatoblastoma (HB), the complete surgical resection of the primary liver tumour and metastases is the most important factor for survival.
METHODS: From 1989 to 1998, 141 children with HB were treated in the German Cooperative Paediatric Liver Tumour Study HB 89 and HB 94. We report the case of a 8-month-old girl who presented with a metastatic malignant germ cell tumor (MGCT) that proved to be resistant to chemotherapy, including salvage platinum-based combination therapy, surgery, and metastatectomy.
