Suicide mapping: Case study on Olomouc and Zlín regions in Czech Republic in 2018-2022.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Suicide represents a major public health issue influenced by a complex interplay of individual, social, and environmental factors. While suicidological research traditionally focuses on psychological and clinical aspects, spatial dimensions of suicidal behavior remain less explored, particularly in Central Europe. This study presents a geospatial analysis of completed suicides in the Olomouc and Zlín Regions of the Czech Republic between 2018 and 2022, using a unique dataset derived from forensic autopsy records. The primary goal was to demonstrate the potential of spatial

Targeting p38 MAPK signaling pathway and neutrophil extracellular traps: An important anti-inflammatory mechanism of Huangqin Qingre Chubi Capsule in rheumatoid arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common chronic autoimmune disease. Neutrophils release and their extracellular traps (NETs) tend to result in synovial inflammation and cartilage damage. Huangqin Qingre Chubi Capsule (HQC) is an important herbal formulation for RA treatment and has been used for many years. This study applied an interdisciplinary and integrated strategy combining clinical data, integrative bioinformatics, molecular modeling, and both in vitro and in vivo experiments to elucidate the efficacy and potential anti-inflammatory mechanisms of HQC for RA. Retrospective clinical data mi

Applying theory to practice in a large research center: creating and implementing tools for building convergence capacity in individuals and teams.

The continued expansion of team science underscores the urgent need for shared, actionable models that can be validated to support effective interdisciplinary collaboration in scientific teams. This paper presents a practice-grounded framework for building convergence capacity in large, multi-institutional research environments, drawing on insights from the Science of Team Science (SciTS) and Integration and Implementation Sciences (I2S). Using the U.S. NSF-funded Science and Technologies for Phosphorus Sustainability (STEPS) Center as a case study, we explore how integration expertise can be

Practices, issues and possibilities at the interface between geriatrics and palliative care (InGaP): A case study exemplifying knotworking.

INTRODUCTION: With the recognition of the need for palliative care for people with non-malignant conditions, there is an increasing emphasis on interdisciplinary working between geriatric and palliative care teams. This interdisciplinary work has evolved organically; more needs to be known about current working practices. This is of policy and clinical interest as the older patient population continues to grow. METHODS: A case study based on qualitative interviews was undertaken of end-of-life care for older in-patients in a large London NHS Trust. 30 semi-structured qualitative interviews we

Progress and challenges in development of minimum essential dataset for disease surveillance through a One Health lens: a scoping review.

BACKGROUND: Minimum essential dataset (MED) enables One Health surveillance by facilitating cross-sectoral data sharing. Yet, existing MED research represents insufficient integration of the One Health concept, and its progress in disease surveillance remains unclear. This study aims to evaluate the current progress and gaps in MED research in disease surveillance through a One Health lens. METHODS: This scoping review systematically searched Embase, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science from the inception of databases to November 30th, 2024 to identify studies published in English. Studies were

Mapping body-related research within the experimental landscape of anorexia nervosa: a scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Anorexia Nervosa (AN) is a complex psychiatric disorder characterized not only by restrictive eating behaviors and fear of weight gain, but also by emotional dysregulation, cognitive rigidity, and a profound disturbance in bodily experience. While bodily disturbance is clinically central, its multifaceted and pre-reflective nature has made it difficult to investigate experimentally. This scoping review aims to map the experimental case-control literature on AN from the past 15 years, with particular attention to how studies on body representation are represented within the broade

Approaches to the Management of Synkinesis: A Scoping Review.

Postparalysis facial synkinesis (PPFS) can develop in any facial palsy and is associated with significant functional and psychosocial consequences for affected patients. While the prevention of synkinesis especially after Bell's palsy has been well examined, much less evidence exists regarding the management of patients with already established synkinesis. Therefore, the purpose of this review is to summarize the available literature and to provide an overview of the current therapeutic options for facial palsy patients with established synkinesis. A systematic literature review was undertaken

Tropical cyclone exposure is associated with increased hospitalization rates in older adults.

Hurricanes and other tropical cyclones have devastating effects on society. Previous case studies have quantified their impact on some health outcomes for particular tropical cyclones, but a comprehensive assessment over longer periods is currently missing. Here, we used data on 70 million Medicare hospitalizations and tropical cyclone exposures over 16 years (1999-2014). We formulated a conditional quasi-Poisson model to examine how tropical cyclone exposure (days greater than Beaufort scale gale-force wind speed; ≥34 knots) affect hospitalizations for 13 mutually-exclusive, clinically-meanin

Communication of genetic information to at-risk relatives during the multidisciplinary monitoring of vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome in a French referral clinic.

Vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (vEDS) is a rare inherited disorder leading to arterial, digestive, and uterine complications due to pathogenic COL3A1 variants. Identification of causal variants allows family screening, provided that relatives have previously been informed, according to a 2013 French Decree. The aims of our study were to assess the communication of genetic information to at-risk relatives, the impact of diagnosis disclosure and to highlight a possible link between the experience of vEDS patients and ability to communicate about genetic information. A total of n = 51 vEDS adult
